Survival - Prepping: Other considerations

I realize how difficult it can be to open your mind, when you're a simple minded bigot. Although taking what you need may be optimal in many scenarios, how can you be sure it's the right move in every scenario? Now I realize you're young, dumb, and full of cum. You are invincible. Amirite?

What happens when you have a medical emergency? What if the only way to get treatment is trade your possessions to get your broken arm set?

When your hiding in your cave, are you ever going to sleep? How secure can you be sleeping with no one looking out for you? You don't think small militias will be scouting out caves and lookout points? You may find it difficult to do everything needed to survive on your own. Just some food for thought. Normally when I think I have it all figured out there is usually a huge surprise waiting for me.

To elaborate further on this EXCELLENT WORD OF CAUTION (kudos dmnEPC):

I was actually trying to bring some reality to the fucktards like Dresden who think that just because they have outfitted themselves with top of the line carbines, designer label camo and buckets of ammo, they think they are going to thrive and make it when the rule of law is absent from our society. In actuality, the Dresdens are going to have a hard a time and in all probability die within 60 days.

For starters the attitude is bass ackwards and overconfident. Overconfidence will get you killed quicker than anything else in battle. I speak about this as someone who has quite a bit of trigger time (the sand box the first go around - Desert Shield/Storm). There are a million things working against someone like Dresden (mainly his own dense head) when it comes to being truly Combat ready but again overconfidence is the biggest hurdle. Second would be the fact that guys like this have a mental picture of combat that is pure fantasy and video game inspired. When you are in a combat scenario you don't have time to think, you react and you better have trained yourself how to react or you're dead, period. The human body and mind has to perform an action over 1000 times to establish muscle memory. (If you're a musician you know what I am referring to here all too well).

One misfire, one jam and you needing to clear your weapon will cause you to stop and think and if you haven't TRAINED for hundreds of hours... while you're thinking about how to clear your weapon, I have put a bullet in your skull. Throw in adrenaline, stress , environmental factors, hunger , dehydration , lack of sleep ad nausea .... if you haven't prepared for this event for hundreds, if not thousands of hours, I am going to kill you plain and simple, because I have trained for this. My mind is prepared for this. My body instinctively reacts to hundreds of different outcomes automatically in regards to a combat scenario.

Just a few words on your high end ghillie suit: You can't hide from infrared. High noon or mid-night, with my infrared unit I can see all and kill all from a very safe distance. Dresden might wanna pack a few extra PF Chang MRE's and an extra Ralph Lauren camo ensemble should he decide to fuck with someone with some real combat experience.

Yuma504 thanks for the thread. Concerning electronics any thoughts on EMP / Faraday cage protection.

schockergd pm'ing.
1859 event would have been something on today's circuit boards eh.

bauss The Mormons have got it together with the food prep. Good prices on quality food with long life span. Also my experience has been they will not hard sell their views during the transaction.

Many have heard the below. Nothing new. Unfortunately most will continue to ignore.

Prepper - Prepare - Prep. Do you have more than 1 meal in your house? Do you have home, rental or car insurance? Do you have any savings? Do you fill your gas tank beyond what it takes to get to your next destination? If yes then you are a Prepper. Some people just prep for a little longer. Seems very subjective to me. If normal to one person is to have enough food for 2 weeks do they consider everyone who has 4 weeks crazy?

3 days. That's how long there is food in the stores if the trucks stop and . . . no one knows there is a problem. Just in-time inventory keeps costs down and also makes infrastructure very fragile. Just the warning of an ice, snow storm, hurricane threat and the shelves are empty in hours. Everybody who is dissing this thread needs to go through just one hurricane. Doesn't have to be a planetary apocalyptic event. Doesn't have to be a terrorist attack, bio or nuclear. Mother nature can change your outlook real quick. (quietly sidesteps any economical / political upheaval)

Survivalist may not be a prepper but often are. Frequently a prepper does not practice advanced survivalist techniques but may be here long after the people who practice neither. What is the downside here? How about you don't have to go to the grocery store everyday.

Zombies. Most of us know it's just Hollywood. Some of us know it's being used as a metaphor in certain context. Look up what begins to happen to humans (animal) after 72 hours without food. After a longer period the same person you grew up with and sit beside in church will rationalize the unthinkable when starvation begins and our genetic survival traits kick in. Now add their kids starving into the equation and watch what happens to laws and morality. When it comes down to it people will justify anything under certain conditions. The problem with the real "zombies" is they are not slow moving, they think, they organize into groups and are extremely motivated.

Look at the riots when a group thought someone was treated unfairly. Or my favorite when a sports team loses or wins. That is nothing compared to what will happen in a few weeks without food or water. Seriously everyone on this board bitches about how certain people have a sense of entitlement. It will not be just them in gangs it will be you if you have not prepared. Do you get it? You are the zombie.

Shelter water fire food. Most of everything else in life is icing.

Yuma504 you mentioned communications heavily in your posts. galacon mentioned that you should get to know your neighbors. In another thread someone also rightly stated that the first rule is to not let others know that you are prepared because you will become a target. I agree with all of those views. Just not sure how to balance the conflict. Suggestions anyone?

Still sound like a radical fringe group? I can't talk for others but our little group are your neighbors. You come to my company to buy from us. I come to your business and I buy from you. Our kids play together. We go to each others parties and bbq's.

Our family does not go on weekend war games. Our vehicles and everyday clothes sport no camo. We don't talk end of world scenarios in everyday conversation.

We have switched from car camping to backpack camping. The children are getting older so we go on longer hikes between camps now. We go to the farm and shoot for fun and make a game of accuracy. We carry our own tents except for the youngest who loves his bivy. We make games of starting the camp fire without a lighter or matches.

We are like most people. Just a few more or different skills and supplies. The whole thing is fun and we hope that it never comes to really needing it in a shtf / eotwawki event.

schockergd "As a quick FYI, i'll be releasing a pretty good resource for all the SHTF/Preppers on here. If you feel led to contribute, PM me and we can work something out."

Will pm but would like to list a couple of questions here that might help on what others contribute. The below is not unique just what I'm interested in atm. Thanks for anyone who can help.

-BOV
This EMP / Solar flare keeps coming in my mind as so many things I depend on might be wiped out by it. Love my powered everything with leather seat warmers but . . .

The early to mid 80's M1009 / military Chevy Blazer ? with 6.2 diesel (no spark plugs, black boxes, points, contacts, etc.) has a head start on the EMP event plus 4wd, torquey, good cargo, weight, towing, ground clearance. Replacement parts are plentiful. Oh and you can get it to run on different alternative fuel sources. What are your choices for BOV?

-Bug out location.
We have 3 different places we stay during the course of a year not counting cruising on the sail boat. We just like the change of climate and landscape. I don't feel good about any of them in a bug out situation. Earlier bought a property that is surrounded on three sides by a national forest and now not sure it was a good idea. Plenty of game to hunt and ag grow but in a get out of the city situation I don't see it as being defensible.
Where is your ideal place?

Thanks for the thread OP.

WF Politics:
While I have never entered a pewep or dresden thread. If dresden has a post in someone elses thread that starts out "Stupid ass post . . ." I know it's probably a good thread. Also when someone brags about there AR-15 and being alpha male when you should be blending in a shtf event they now have become an object of windage and elevation.

Peace out studs.
