So if you happen to remember - Techcrunch was defaced twice this year. Usually hackers are pretty smart and erase all the evidence or atleast make it virtually impossible to track down their IP.

Well, as it turns out - the authorities have tracked down the hacker and has now asked TechCrunch if they want to press charges against the hacker (which would require extradition from the suspect's homeland in Ireland). And TechCrunch is asking users what they should do via a Poll.


They have also posted the chat logs of the hackers having conversation right after the site was hacked.

that is a serious n00b mistake that person will regret for the rest of their life.. this has to be the biggest facepalm of 2010 hands down

I HIGHLY doubt this is HaRRo, he's dumb, but not _that_ dumb
 
Harr0 is a pretty smart guy. From what I know about him, I believe he lives near Belfast, UK and the suspect in question is in Ireland.

The suspect is just a kid who experimented with his hacking skills and screwed with the wrong people. The only thing he can now technically do is somehow manipulating the poll results by *hacking* them. LOL.

But yeah, he's pretty much screwed.
 
Man I'm torn in two with this, of course I think he should have some kind of punishment but I feel that left in the hands of a judge he's really going to get fucked. There have been many times where I have been in this guy's situation when I was younger. Nothing ever came out of it even when I would get caught because I would lie and pityparty my way out of it, so I really feel for him.
 
He’s a suspect in another case and evidence strongly suggesting he was the TechCrunch hacker as well came to their attention. He redirects hacked sites to a website he owns and generates affiliate revenue.

What a fucking idiot. It's like the guy that hacked Obama's twitter and posted up some affiliate links. WTF ended up happening with that, anyway? I think those were Copeac links?

LOL, if it's the guy I'm thinking of who did that, he's already on ROKSO so I don't think he cares.
 
i think its funny. Fuck hackers. It doesn't matter how smart or careful you are no one is truly anonymous online and getting caught is merely dependent on how determined your pursuer is. If you're using your skills for lols instead of making coin you deserve prison time. After spending over a year getting good at tracking things and dropping the hammer on the guy who ddos'd me i still do some extra consulting work once in awhile. It's a blast to see these smug assholes talk all this shit like its impossible then instantly go all victim crybaby when their door gets knocked on.
