Been done here before, Blokblok... Not a bad film but boy did they name it a tad bit presumptuously.

Perhaps it should be called "The most important film you can see about arithmatic, you stupid sheep..." Of course it wouldn't get as many views that way. ;)

all propaganda for one theory.

The entire world population could live in Texas and still have a population density that is roughly half of Paris.

7,000,000,000 people.
242,400 square miles in Texas

28,878 people per square mile.

Moscow - 27,000 per square mile
Paris - 54,000 per square mile

The earth is much larger than you think.

Now I am pretty tired right now so maybe one of you can check my math, I will stand corrected if wrong. After all I did go to public school so I cannot be blamed for my mistakes.....

^Looks like someone didn't understand the arithmetic.

Given.

And this time I won't even bring up the space all those ppl's crops and sewage and seawater and energy generation and forests and streams require. Let's say their tech can put all of those absolute needs underneath their feet in some unicorn-carved caves or something... Well we're still fucked.

Why? Because:

1. Texas is a considerable chunk of the available land we have.

2. As this film points out, it's the RATE of Growth, not just the mere space or density, that you really need to be worried about.

The Earth's total land mass is 57,511,026 square miles, or about 29.2% of its total surface.

All land/Texas land= ~237

Then strip out frozen land and vertical land and other places you can't survive on, and let's call Texas a 200th of all the habitable land on Earth. (Yeah that's a guess.)

So at the RATE of population growth we're at now, we've already consumed
a 200th of the livable Earth, according to your 1/2-Paris-density point.

How long will it take to expand 200 times? This film sorta answers that and the answer is BLEAK. As in your-grandchildren-are-going-to-kick-your-old-arse-for-still-taking-up-their-space bleak.

Not to mention, would you want to live on an elbow-to-elbow planet? Sounds horrible. Ppl would be killing each other just for some damn breathing room...

Then account for rising ocean levels and it starts to look like we're going to be one of the last generations on this planet to own any land.

Allz I got to say is they better invent self-sustaining floating cities QUICK.

i wonder if any of these peak-oil end of the world types ever think about just buying some oil instead of bitching so much?

Who the hell is talking about running out of space? We are talking about resources.

Yeah.... let's see. Everyone can fit into such a small part of the planet. At much less density than many cities. Paris is by far not the most dense city.

So maybe the rest of the world can be used for resources. The post was meant to put the issue into prospective. We would not even want to pack everyone into such an area.

We could farm the mountains, graze cattle on the mountains, utilize the sea...... if you are really worried about this crap then you do not understand geography, energy, and agriculture.

It is not an issue. We are not running out of resources, we will never run out of resources.

It is all a bunch of the sky is falling crap..

And LukeP - I understand the arithmetic.

This is a real problem so for the good of humanity can every second person who reads this please top themselves now, thnx.

Damn you are so clueless, did you watch the video (there are many other resources to learn more as well)? Please provide information to counter the information in the video and I will gladly look at it with an open mind.

And how can you think we can continue to go on forever with the amount of growth the world is having, you probably thought housing prices would never fall, this is the same concept.

In the last 100 years we have gone from a little over 1 billion people to almost 7 billion, that is insane.

At the current population growth rate, 1.5%, in the next 100 years we will have about 31 billion people on the planet.... the current growth on the planet is not sustainable.
