The US govt stole my parents laptop

Did you keep the smashed camera? There is a strong possibility to recover photos.

If anyone ever is in a sticky spot with their camera, offer to delete photos. After deleting remove card, do not take another photo on that card. Any number of data recovery programs should easily recover the images

It was more about them smashing the fuck out of my shit.

Most people probably won't ever have this issue. But I sometimes fly 10x a month.

It's mainly at JFK

I hear you. The tsa is outta control. What happened to provoke that response? Did it happen in front of you?

The good news is the TSA is comming to a city near you (the proverbial you). The are on a power grab and are beginning to show up at large events (Super Bowl, World Series) and are also looking to start working mass transit (subways, trains).

The only way to handle these buracrats is with civil disobedience. People need to standup for themselves.

I had a laptop switched up in the TSA line and when I called they said they had 11 other laptops but none were mine, from that checkpoint at the time I went through.

Eventually a month+ later the person who had mine contacted dell, who contacted me, and we mailed each other back our laptops.

I don't go through that TSA line.

It happens during baggage inspection. I literally have like 50 of those inspected by TSA tags in my luggage and leave them right on top, maybe that pisses them off.

Only thing I can think of is they lived in Malaysia for a few years. So maybe some retarded 23 year old immigration official with an IQ of 50 scanned their passports, seen the Malaysian VISAs popup, and due to the missing flight decided to confiscate the laptop.

That's really the only thing I can think of. Unless my dad has gotten bored during his retirement, and found himself some new hobbies. :)

maybe the laptop was used as a part of the mh370 hijacking.... :p they obviously triggered some alarms....

by the sounds of it your parents have a bit of cash tell them to buy another one...

For travel within the U.S., you can transport two bottles of alcohol without raising any huge flags.

If you check in a bag with two bottles of wine and put all your charger/appliance cables packed in with those bottles, you'll get the TSA inspection paper.
If you bring cheese in a carry-on bag, get ready to explain that, cause it looks funny when they screen it.
The metal foil on cigarette packages trips the metal detectors. If you stick a pack of smokes in your sock by your ankle, they'll want to talk to you.
If you have a small 1 oz silver piece, don't put it at the bottom of a pack loaded with a crapload of DVDs and CDs. You'll have to haul that all out and ask repeatedly WTF they are looking for.

Anytime I get through the security bullshit without any of that happening, I consider it bonus. But, I expect it, so don't get upset when it happens.
