Time = Money

Recently I got into a scrap with a girlfriend who wasn't happy that I don't work a "traditional" job. Money's not the issue, just the fact that I don't work a set schedule at someone else's business. Something about that bothers her...anyways it got me thinking about what kind of job I'd be willing to take at this point in my life.

I mean you've all heard the saying "Time equals money." Its common sense to most, but as an IM, if you HAD to go back to work, ya know the 9-5 daily trudge, what would your time be worth? What would you expect to be paid to spend 40hrs a week out of your life working for someone else?

Try to be realistic here, cuz we'd all like to be making $200/hr or so, right? But would you be willing to work for say $20/hr? $15/hr? $10/hr? Try not to base this on your current bill situation, but on your personal "self worth".

How much IS your time worth to you?

LOL I've been there, everybody assumes that if you "work from home" that you must spend all day in your robe fapping and watching tv. But unless you need the money or are bored out of your mind, why would you go and get a 9-5?

yeah, my wife gripes about me not having a normal job sometimes; since I'd be at home after 5pm to spend the rest of the evening with her and the child instead of being upstairs on the computer sporadically. TOUGH SHIT!

time is money is a lie

time is worth more than money, it is simply priceless

and if you end up jumping into a job and back onto the rat race because of some aggressive tramp then I would just stay at that job for the rest of your life because making smart life decisions just isnt your bag

i know your question is hypothetical but you wouldnt have made this thread if you werent considering it

how can u even think about going back to that 9 to 5 hell after doing IM. I am hoping u r making decent money in IM. If u want to keep her happy, just try to do some time management and spend some time with her. Tell her to STFU about ur IM business and work, coz she aint know no shit how cool it is to be a IM

This. ^

It sounds like she is annoyed that you work while she's around and wants you to work while she's working.

Honestly, given that every salaried person tends to get work-related calls on their days off, when the boss thinks of stuff and wants you to be looking at it over night for tomorrow, etc., she needs a little perspective.

Just manage your time to do most of your stuff while she's busy, spend a little more time with her, and write down stuff you think about if she is around and do it later. If that doesn't do it for her, then consider renting some office space.

If she's still upset or doesn't want to work with you on a win-win to satisfy both of your needs, dump her.

Working for other people is the main change for self employed folks, not an easy transition.

I've got a few business buddies who would be simply unemployable because of the controlling mindset.

If I were to go back to working the 9-5 grind for someone else, I'd better be making about $10,000 a month and that would be the bare minimum to make it worth my time.

WTF? Time = Money? Who made up that crap?

Like someone earlier posted,

Time is worth more than money. Why? Because you can always have more money, but you can't have more time - all you got is 24hrs/day. Make 'em count!

And if she can't understand it mate, then sorry...

As a working stiff in a FT job who also does IM

Threads like this make me fukin rage.

Sounds like OP has certainly managed to escape from his Manbox...

[FONT=&quot]I’m a cleaner in a discount supermarket; I work 2-5 hours per day cleaning, I’m on £6.10 a hour, my travel expense is around £4.00 per day so if I’m only doing a 2 hour day I only make £8.00 in return for 2 hours work. I would work a 9-5 for about £6.00 per hour the only reason I don’t do this is I need internet access to monitor sites if I worked more hours id loose money but the 2-5 hours I do fits in perfect.

The reason I work is i found that I had 6 hours free a day I guess most people watch TV however I need to be active all the time I need to be working or doing something if I cant work I seem to feel rather depressed, I even still go to work when work gives me a day off. I made sure I picked the most degrading job (in a warm place) for the soul fact it makes me understand people it lets me have a insight into what it would be like if I was broke and didn’t work my heart out everyday I guess its like a wake up call.

It makes life a lot easier when asked what you do for a living you don’t even have to explain that you work online you simply say cleaner.
