UK General Election

Compared to what i see as the average American mentality, here in Britain, there is a lot of "can't do" attitude.

America is still a teenager. Impatient, aggressive, reckless, thinks she's always right. Yet she's optimistic, hopeful and energetic. She still believes she is invincible and can do anything.

Britain is older and wiser, but also more jaded and cynical. She's been there, done that and now has to watch as others make the same mistakes.

First of all that diagram is pretty well off - I'm not sure which policies you're looking at but the Tories are not that far right, if anything these days they are creeping to the left.

That in a nutshell is the entire problem we face. There is no legitimate right in this country anymore. We have New Labour, a New Conservative party which is essentially just a weak Cameronesque version of New Labour, and UKIP who are relatively useless.

The only other option is the BNP who are a nasty bunch, and even ignoring that have no experience or legitimate policies to change anything other than "throw out the muslims".

What we need is a strong and responsible right wing, we need a new Maggie. Someone who can take industry and business and drag it back to its feet by the balls, whilst taking a firm stance on social issues, immigration and the EU.

Don't even get me started on the EU. Close to 90% of voters want out, but none of the major parties will even broach the subject of a referendum. That's democracy in action.

So what to do. I think I'll vote Tory, purely because my local Lib Dem is a ballbag and it's a marginal seat. But I'm not happy about it.

Probably voting BNP or UKIP because although I am not racist and I am pro-European, I am fervently anti-EU b/c it's a corrupt, undemocratic, socialist superstate and I don't want to be part of it.

There are a whole range of problems at grass roots level in the UK that are a by-product of years of Labour policy (massive growth of State employment, growth of CCTV (aren't the Brits the most surveilled country in the world?), Islamification of large population centers, taxes going through the roof, etc) and something needs to change.

I agree with you about the EU being corrupt and undemocratic, but we can't change that if we leave and besides it's not like our system here is particularly democratic or our politicians squeaky clean. Look at what's going on now in this "wash up" shit and the reoccurring cash for questions dramas.

You do realise that under the current system the BNP and UKIP have fuck all chance of getting any seats. If you are looking to register a protest vote, the English Democrats or no-2-EU might be more up your street.

Yeah, nice job.

Fuck, they've even got some good policies...

The British National Party is the only political party to vehemently oppose the war in Afghanistan and demand the immediate withdrawal of British troops from that conflict.

Furthermore, the BNP will actively seek the prosecution of all those politicians and civil servants who concocted the lies saying that the Afghan war (and the Iraq conflict) was “justified.”

These people — Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Iain-Duncan Smith and others — must all be called to account under war crimes and crimes against humanity charges.

getting out of Iraq and Afghanistan would save the country huge amounts of money. Personally I'd like to see Vince Cable as chancellor rather than that buffoon Osbourne but I think its unlikely, even in the event of a hung parliament, unless the libdems switch and form a very solid pact with Labour.

Either way the country is a bit fucked now. Still, I think it would be a lot more fucked if we had another Thatcher coming into power - Germaine Greer on the making of Margaret Thatcher | Politics | The Guardian

I can't see the BNP ever getting into power. IMO you're pretty stupid if you do vote for them. Their policies are what people want to hear. If they ever pick up traction the policies will soon change, much like the lib dems and the scrapping of uni fees fiasco. Nick Griffin has his own agenda, shit'll go down if he was in office.

The government need to control immigration and sort out taxes. Maybe the conservatives can fix it, but voting for a fascist party isn't the way.

Besides, his glass eye freaks me the fuck out.

Yep the BNP (and UKIP) have zero chance of getting in to power. But, although I despise the racism of the BNP I applaud their focus on challenging the main three parties and forcing the issues that ordinary people are concerned about into the faces of the political elite, such as Islamification of the UK, fighting in overseas wars that have little to do with the UK and crime getting out of control. I predict that the BNP will get a lot of votes come May 6th, I doubt they will even get one MP, but the numbers will at least give food for thought to the party that wins the election.
