Up To 45K To Spend On Car: What to Get?

E46 M3, and take it to a decent motorsport garage to get it turbo'd. Will have better performance than plenty of Ferraris, but still have a degree of affordability and comfort.

There are no blinders. That's the exact reason I drive a Honda right now instead of an m3. I think anyone thinking of going into german luxury should be aware of maintenece costs.

Unless your.buying a new BMW and get everything covered for 3 years

It's still not cut and dry though:

Honda and Toyota Top Reliability Survey, but Ford Closes Gap - NYTimes.com

"Leading the way for Ford were the 4-cylinder versions of the Fusion and its sibling, the Mercury Milan, which were judged to be more reliable than two old standbys, the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. The Lincoln MKZ, a luxury version of the Fusion, also bests the Lexus ES and the Acura TL."

I know it doesn't matter. I just said that to emphasize not to buy a g8.

Im biased against american cars. The only american cars id own are an escalade, corvette, or ford GT, or any of the muscle cars.

They are overpriced, underdesigned, and quickly depreciating assets imo

The Pontiac g8 is an Australian car, exported to America and fitted with a different grille. It's practically an Asian import!

One of my friends has one of these and I was out in it on Sunday, I didn't rate the seats very highly. I started to find them uncomfortable for only a 30 minute car ride.

But I'm 6ft 3" so maybe that has something to do with it.

Naw dude, I'm 6' 2" and I dig the BMW seats. If your a fat ass you'll hate them for sure.

Wow, can't believe I'd never seen an XKR before. They look really cool, but I wonder what kind of reviews they get.

335xi is what I'm picking up in a couple of months. I need AWD.

I just picked up a 2008 335xi 6sp a few months ago and love it. I'd recommend getting one loaded, some awesome options in these cars.

1M is a car for kids. Way too toy-ish looking. I'd go for a 2008-2010 M3.

But since you don't want a bmw, I'd say get a used 996 or 993 Porsche. The turbo versions are AMAZING and honestly, both will still look amazing in 20 years. Porsche barely has changed the 911 looks in its history. Besides they are built to last and get pretty good mileage for the power they can provide

I've had a 996 for a couple of years now and by the far the best car I have ever owned. It's a reliable daily driver and is barely distinguishable from the current 997 model to anyone but Porsche enthusiasts (headlight/turn signal design changes).

Be prepared to frequently replace the rear tires as the engine has a nice way of sitting right on top of them. Michelin Pilot Sports are awesome but extremely overpriced but alternatives with very similar performance characteristics are half the price.

Don't be too much of a poser and get a super exotic (SUPER OLD) sports car.. They go from 150k++ in price to 45k in 5-10 years for a reason -- they are money pits!

If you want an exotic -- get a porsche 911 convertible. As far as "exotics" go, they are the most reliable (IMO). I have had a 2003 for 5 years and it has had ZERO problems so far.

You can easily get a 2005 or older 911 for about 45k.

For a daily driver, I roll in a sweet infinity QX56 with factory chrome 20's and loaded - built like a tank - and holds its value because every drug dealer in the world wants one! [and it is 10x more reliable than an escalade - which dumb-ass drug dealers want too!]

Get either Black or white -- the russians will pay to export black ones and drug dealers love either black or white on chromes, so your resale is safe...

Plus it is reliable as hell and can hold you and your 5 best friends [in a blizzard!]

F*%$ MPG -- it is a sweet and practical vehicle

You can get a very nice used one for 45k or less. Put the difference back in your pocket..

Buy a new ferrari when your net worth exceeds 20 million. Or rent one in vegas for 2k if you need a quick fix.. they are fun for about a month, and then you realize that you are losing 1k+/month in value and it kills the joy --

Can somebody explain what the point is in owning a really fast super car?

Do you take it to the track? It's not like you're going to drive it any differently than a pedestrian car on regular roads.

I'd rather drive something that says you've got both money and sense. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the price of one's car was inversely proportional to how much money they had.

Shit, I'd rather drive an efficient car that will last forever, and save my money to eventually buy a yacht. While you guys are dinking around in your ghey supercars, I'm gonna be on a fucking boat.

I didn't say boats are cheap. But I'm sure as hell never gonna afford one if I drive around some of the cars the above posters are recommending.

355 is one of the worst Ferrari's ever made, terrible on maintenance. You'd have less issues with a Yugo.

Never buy a Jaguar unless again you want a maintenance nightmare. English built cars have gotten a little better, but not much.

I'm bias to Porsche since I had one, and they are built like tanks, and have great resale.

But for something different, the NSX is a sleeper for sure, and are actually going up in value since they were pretty maintenance free, and quite unique.

Honest questions.

1. How many people who have owned a jag for more than 1 year, not felt foolish for the purchase sooner than later?

2. Irregardless of question #1, after study and investigation of car guides how many of you at a stoplight point and laugh at people in a jag and consider them re-bill targets?

In light of full disclosure I belong to both groups.

I would buy a small chunk of land in Sonoma to grow some serious wine blending grapes and drive around in this all day. I would spend my days looking to bang wine sucking whores on the tailgate while I admire my grape field and briefly wonder what the other assholes might be driving that day.

Now that I am older I agree with all of the above - but only if you are older. If you want to be young, dumb, and have fun - then fast cars are for you.

The key to a fast car is making it from Yorba Linda to Long Beach on the 57-91-605-22-405 in a few minutes flying in and out at unbelievably stupid speeds.

Leadsuppliers list earlier was great - get a Porsche.

If you are young and want pure fun skip the Jag. It is an executive sports car for the 30+ crowd - more the 40+ really. And by the time you are 50 you do not want to be seen in a Porsche - so get the Porsche now and the Jag as you age.

I had a Jag XKR back in 2001 - It really was a great car to drive - but I did know it was a foolish purchase got rid of it pretty fast.
