THE WORST KIND OF AFFIRMATIVE ACTION IS CLASS AFFIRMATIVE ACTION it's called the "legacy system".
In other words, people being admitted because of whom their parents are, their uncles, etc. Do you know that form of affirmative action is 5x larger than any kind of minority based system?!
Hey nubsauce, if you sat on the "board" as a "young alumn
us" why can't you type correctly?
Anyways, it's actually not the worst type of affirmative action, if you can even call it that, because it helps assure the schools of appropriate external funding and hence, increased longevity. Do you think all these rich people would still donate if their kids
didn't get in? It's basically
your former school spitting in your face, then turning around with its hands out asking for $. Also, most colleges only count your parents. "Uncles, etc." don't count. Along those same lines, do you think parents of kids from poor socioeconomic backgrounds help fund these colleges? Nope. Might they graduate, become successful and donate, yes - then might their kids receive legacy & affirmative action treatment? Maybe.
And for the record, it's not 5x larger than any kind of minority based system. At the most prestigious colleges, legacy admission rates tend to be 2-3x the standard admission rate. Does anyone have any figures on minority admission rates? They are probably pretty close, if not higher than legacy rates because the number of minority applicants generally tends to be much lower.
Keep in mind that children of alumni get flat out rejected too. If they accepted every legacy, there would be no room in an incoming class for anyone else.
