Netphase and Punn have a good point, which I think was stated best by Dennis Leary. Basically, we don't care about "food" animals, but we do about "companion" animals... it's just that depending which country you're in, those animals have a habit of changing (i.e. India... You eat a BigMac on the street, they're gonna fuck you up).

Once again, I think the issue isn't that he killed a puppy per say. It's that if he did kill that puppy, it's the callous manner in which he did it that concerns people so badly, even if they're not consciously aware of that being their primary concern, and it becomes the boogeyman-de-jour.
It's what's known as a "Moral Panic" (Cohen did a whole shitload of thesii on them in the 60s)
And if he didn't, then it's the fucked up way in which he was playing with a dead puppy that still gives people a reason for concern.

Have you ever had a fresh litter of puppies around? Until about 6 weeks, they go totally limp and shut their eyes when you pick them up by the scruff.
I guess it's an automatic response so they don't move about, or get drool in their eyes, when their mothers try to take them from one spot to another.
It's actually really adorable if you've got a spazzy little puppy... Just pick it up by the next and it's comatose until you put it back down...

Good post....I'm not standing up or defending killing puppies.

I just think there is a bit of irony that seems to slip past many of us, that's all.

Yeah, my dog (The Dude) did that when I grabbed him by the back of his neck when he was a puppy.....I'm just still not sure the video was real. Little things about it seem strange.

If it is real, what the kid/guy did was brutal and inhumane - I just think we also sometimes forget that these are 18, 19 and 20 year old kids we send over there to deal with a pretty fucked up situation.

Then we all get shocked, surprised, and stunned when the pressure gets to them and things like this happen. That's all.

Some people are quick to want to kill and harass this guy and his family, yet few have ever put themselves in his shoes.

Fuck that stupid puppy. Jesus christ people are so fucking blind. Hundreds of thousands of people have died in Iraq, where is your bleeding heart for them? Oh it's for this puppy.
 
We train young kids to be killers, then are outraged when they kill...a puppy, but not other human beings.

Seems like we're the ones with more issues than the marine.

My kneejerk reaction after watching that was "that was horrible", but after hearing people calling for his death over a puppy, I realized that it's not the marine with the problems, it's the masses.

Anybody that thinks the marine in that video should be court martialled, or shot, or killed in another manner for his actions really needs to wake the fuck up.

Personally, I'd like to thank him for doing his job as a marine, and forgive him for his lapse of judgement in this case. Really that's all this video was: a lapse of common sense.

First of all, the "entire world" does not hate America. That's an obvious exaggeration.

Let me also ask you this....put you in this kid's situation.

Let's say this group of marines secures a remote village in Iraq where there has been no rule of law for months. They secure the village and find 3 or 4 puppies left for dead.

No food, no water(it's the middle of fucking Iraq!), and no chance to live.

The Marines cannot take the puppies back to base and save them. It's against regulation.

So what do you do?

Do you leave the puppies to die of sickness and dehydration in the middle of the fucking desert?

Do you shoot the puppies, so they don't have to suffer? (Have to use bullets)

Do you toss the puppies like this soldier did?


There really is no RIGHT answer.

It's really not a question or a situation most people put themselves in or even IMAGINE being faced with in their lifetime.

So answer the question.....there is no hemming and hawwing.....just a decision to be made.

Make one.
 
Punn did it look like he was making a tough decision? When I make a hard decision I don't laugh. The guy is a fucking asshole, he should have shot the dog if the situation you state is accurate, but it's not. Some of the people over there are fucking idiots, and are immature.

No I'm not saying this is all about the "puppy". To be honest I could give a shit about the dog. What bothers me is the entire situation the US is in, and how all these fucktards want another Bush clone - McCain.

The dollar is in terrible shape, the economy is in terrible shape, we have a huge national debt that will takes years to pay off, we are waging a war for a handful of people's personal interests, these dumbass soldiers are making americans look even worse than we already do

That's a warning on the OP video that I don't have to watch (and haven't) and can still read the thread. With your pics, I didn't know they were coming. I'm not getting preachy, I just am saying a little "heads up -gross pictures, while you're trying to eat your lunch, are heading your way" would have been nice.

wow......i don't know what to say. I felt very angry with that man when I realized what he was going to do. After reading the posts, I did notice some things.

1. i agree there is a chance of it being 'faked'
2. if it wasn't faked, then that is really disheartening to see one of 'us' be so cruel to a living creature.
3. i don't have any morals to portray...but somehow i think that watching a human exhibit such cruelty, seems to be magnified when you see it focus'd on something little, harmless, and quite innocent.
4. i like puppies, probably more then i like people...and seeing this is pulls a very strong reaction from my stomach. Most people aren't really rational creatures, and they aren't going to react to their environments in a rational fashion. They're humans. Is it really that surprising that people flip out over the puppy, but don't pay attention to the humans....isn't that exactly what you'd expect ?
5. anyhow, i hope nobody kills that soldier, who knows what his life may bring?
