Lots of unemployment benefits ran out on Sunday. That and the first of the month and people are freaking out.

This is why I'm running for senator in 2010, so that anyone who gets pregnant and either:
a) makes less than $35,000 per year
b) has no health insurance
c) is ugly
must have a government mandated abortion.
America is full of degenerate scum and it's only going to get worse. I just stay in the house and if I must go out I go to places where I don't have to see those kinds of people.

I started out my life living like those people because my family is/was fucked. Now I'm an adult and I have cut pretty much all ties with my family and people like that. I know how most of those people think and operate. Don't feel sorry for them because 95% of them are lazy low lifes who are, like the OP said, nothing but scammers and drug addicts looking for a free ride.
I say its time we make the welfare users deserve the money. I dont have a problem with people falling and getting back up with help. But when you never pay taxes, get your food and rent paid, have tons of kids on free school lunch, and what ever other benefits our great society provides. You should deserve it just a little. Not be entitled to it just cause you're a loser, and cant function in one the greatest economic systems this world has ever seem.
I say implement a work program (maybe something similar to community service) and also implement phaseout stages and get some of these healthy and work able fuckers to take some responsibility.

I do agree on this statement.. make them do some community service, give blood, military service, etc...
I can somewhat sympathize with the OP. Every time I drive by the food bank I see something that pisses me off.
My favorite was when I saw a white-diamond colored escalade with spinner wheels parked right outside the foodbank. Then this asshole comes out with a couple boxes full of food.
Last week I walked by a car where a kid was in the back seat waiting for his mom while she was in the foodbank. I looked down and saw that he was playing games on a fucking ipod touch.
It's mostly immigrant people who have a culture that will never turn down something as long as it's free. Kind of irritating, but if I had their upbringing I'd probably be just like them.

Germany tried this with long-term unemployed.
It was called "1-Euro JoB" and meant that they had to go and do work for 1 Euro an hour.
Of course, the only jobs would be government / community jobs that should require no skilled labour.
Of course it went differently.
A lot of communities had their city halls renovated, parks styled, woods cleaned of underbrush, etc.. using 1 Euro Jobbers, thus depriving small businesses (painters, landscapers, etc..) of an income source.
Some reports I have seen, the unemployed were even skilled for the job (like a painter renovating an old city hall for 1 Euro an hour, instead of the city hiring him for a real wage).
All in all, SNAFU was had all around.
No easy solution for that stuff, folks.

Would cost more to create the governmental structure to handle all that than it would be to just hand them the damn check every month, dude.
And you do not want to just have everyone give blood or serve in the military.
Just stop handing out checks. Tell everyone in the US that on such-and-such a date, within a year, we're going to not be handing out any welfare checks or food stamps to anyone. You have a year to figure out how you're going to support yourself.
You seem to not be thinking.. not anyone can get into the military and not anyone can give blood.. but I bet a lot of them people would qualify on both.

Nope, no mandatory service other than the "normal" military service you do when you are 18(ish) is allowed by the German law.

Thats why we implement phaseout stages.
Plus community service in my area is freeway / road clean up, park clean up and support. Nothing that effects the small business owners.
Maybe if we have less people depending on the government, we can drop taxes for small business owners. Who can turn around and hire an extra person or two. Cause and effect.
The point is to push people to get out and be somebody, not just sit on the couch and collect money. Most people if forced to work, will probably start looking for better opportunities. Its hard to do that if you sit home and watch tv all day.
This sounds good.. maybe also make them complete a 30 day co-op with small business as well, if they do good the business can hire them later.
So what stops citizens from going that route and getting welfare on the side when not eligible or getting multiple welfare "accounts" (or whatever they are called) to get more benefits?

Can you post a link to one of those states' license eligibility requirements and document requirements for their DMV offices?
Otherwise, I call bullshit.
Most states require a foreign passport with a valid visa before they would even consider issuing you a license. And I don't even think all types of visas qualify.
Also don't forget to check the social security office, which sure as fuck doesn't give out numbers to illegal immigrants.
