If it wasn't for the CIA helping the Taliban along, Afganistan and possibly more of the Middle East would be speaking Russian.

At the time the Soviet Union was the most dangerous threat to our country. So what if we helped create the Taliban. How does it go " The enemy of my enemy is my friend"?

The Taliban was necessary at the time to stop further expansion of the USSR. Hasn't anyone ever had a dog that they nutured, feed and took care of, only to have the dog bite you later on. Same thing here the dog needs to be put to sleep.

I don't give a shit about US governmental interests. We're talking about Islam here. But I guess you've answered the dilemma many people seem to have regarding Islam, it's not the religion itself, but the people (specifically politicians and people in power) that abuse and tarnish it's name.

In fact, I think this fake version of 'Islam' is the best thing that's happened to the US government. First they used it to kick the soviets out, and now that its done, they've used it to occupy Saddam-controlled Iraq (who was by the way, helped into power by the US) and Taliban controlled Afghanistan (again, only there because of America), even going as far as to merge the two together by associating them with Al Qaida (another organisation with the US at its roots - gee, where will it end) when people started to question the US governments motives. Luckily for them, enough Americans are like bb_wolfe and popeye for this warmongering to have ever been a real problem. God bless America.

And it's not just your government I hate. I hate pretty much every government, especially the oppressive regimes of the middle east. I don't believe for a second though that the US has invaded these nations to help the people that live in these countries. And you all know it too. The real reason is the preservation of the US economy. And when it comes to choosing between the blood of innocent people and war torn nations, between oil companies, I think I don't need to tell you which one I would go for.

Um, yeah. If I'm going to war, there better be spoils to be had that's for sure. Look at it as an investment in the future. I spend money now for missiles and get paid after I fire them off. The same can be said for democracy I suppose. It's a common goal for the good of the USA.

Let me give you an example: World War 2. War was necessary, because Hitler was hell bent on killing everyone and dominating the world. War is necessary when it comes to defending yourself. What's been happening in recent years is not defence though, the actions of a few terrorists has been used by the US (and Britain as well) as a pretext for the full scale invasion of certain countries which have no connection with terrorism, other than possibly being inhabitated by a few terrorists, in which case every country, including the US, has terrorists.

Its obvious not all people in the world think the way we do, so to them this shit is completely justified. Deal with it and just accept it unfortunately.

Realistically though.. do these atrocities actually effect your cushy way of life? No. They may shock you, but be serious, are you going to do anything about it other than voice your opinion. No. So just shut the fuck up and go about your day as if nothing happened, because we're good at that.

There are 1.2 billion muslims in the world (Council on American-Islamic relations). If only 1% of these muslims lean to the radical side (most estimates are 10-20%). Then we are in trouble.

Add to that a large percentage that are not radicals, but support the actions of radical muslims. Add to that a large percentage that are not radicals and do not support their actions, but are perfectly fine to sit idly by and not make any protest. Add to that a large percentage of non-muslim apologists that insist it is their own fault that radical muslims are so "frustrated" and "misunderstood", spreading conspiracy theories etc. Suddenly this is not a problem of only a few guys in a cave.

That's true. It's really sad when you think about it, how many talented and creative people there must be in these Islamic countries but are being kept in ignorance and poverty because of this ridiculous religion. Christianity was the same that kept the whole of Europe in the dark ages for centuries until some brave people spoke out against the Christian church and we finally got the enlightenment, and started using reason instead of religious superstition. Hopefully there will be the same people in the Middle East who will speak out against the way Islam is today and cause an enlightenment in their countries, otherwise they are just going to be fucked.

Even though radicals cause the problems, the mainstream religion is just as to blame. If you teach people that it is OK to believe things based on faith, and not evidence, then you open the door for everyone and anyone to give their "interpretation" of faith, and this ends up with a few radicals. Teach people to base things on reason instead of faith, and it shuts the door to the radicals.
