What do you tell your friends and family?

As long as you are honest with your taxes, the government knows your income and net worth anyway.

People who are determined to find out about you (like competitors) will find what they need/want about you even if you have no Facebook account and pretend to be living in a trailer park.
Right, so nothing matters and everything is inevitable.

Secrecy doesn't exist. Someone needs to tell the Swiss.

I agree that it's foolish to flaunt your wealth (no matter how subtly - as long as it gets the message across you'll get haters) but at the level you're talking about, publicly maintaining a frugal image doesn't make much of a difference.
When you start hanging out with really wealthy people, you'll realize how wrong this post was.

Could you elaborate on this?

I mean, I look at Donald Trump (and other publicly-known billionaires/centimillionaires) and the impression I get is "yep I'm filthy rich, wtf you gonna do about it?".

I'm not even talking about fools like Mike Tyson who squandered away $300mil and went bankrupt.

I start rattling on about what it is that I actually do...ie basic SEO explanations with lots of big words and SEO terminology; and after about 30 seconds, they find some excuse to change the subject. works every time

Good move. If you trolled me hard, I would destroy you.

I'm already bored with this conversation. People who get it, get it.

How many Donald Trumps are there in the world? Do you feel he is an accurate reflection of the mass of super wealthy people?

Don't get me wrong, I personally would obfuscate my wealth too as well if I were super-rich. The problem is that the current peasant-me only thinks like that because it "feels right" - I'm interested in the specific advantages of it.

A simple link or even a relevant google query would be as much appreciated as a lengthy explanation.

On a related note, how do super-wealthy people who are already "outed" deal with this? How can they "obfuscate" themselves?

Just have to be honest. My friends/family know I am into internet marketing and think it is rather interesting.
