This always fascinated me, and it's especially applicable to online marketing and the sales process. What does it take to change someone who is deeply rooted in one belief to another extreme? I don't believe such a change can be approached with reason due to the backfire effect.

For example, I genuinely don't believe anything short of a lobotomy could convince me to be a conservative.

would it turn me into a pedophile?

The unspeakable things that your father did to you and your brother could (and I emphasize could) make you more likely to victimize children. However, not all victims of molestation go on to victimize others - but it's very important that you seek counseling to ensure that you break the cycle.

Just remember, it's not your fault. It's NOT your fault Anta.

Usually, the goal with arguing with someone with an extreme opposing view isn't to actually convince them to change their mind, but to convince everyone watching the argument to take your side. Some people you'll just never be able to convert, which is the case for almost everyone here actually.

Yeah no. Its not applicable to the sales process. You will never be able to sell beer to someone who hates beer - at least not in any profitable numbers. But You might be able to get folks that drink brand y to try brand x. That is all.
