What happens when you get stressed? How do you fix it?

Kinda odd but I make the shower warm, turn off all the lights and lay down/sit there. Your eyes will adjust to the dark from the light under the door. Its calming to not have anything going on, tv, noise, light, etc. Kinda meditative.

I do the same, but I just leave a little bit. I usually bring the laptop into the bathroom, turn on some music and I can "feel" and just sing/flow with, and turn the screen brightness down to 3 of the lowest settings.

Also I usually bring the laptop in the bathroom for the showers anyway so I have music - I try to inject music into as many parts of my life as possible.

1. Stress is not a good working environment for your brain. Many idiotic managers think it is, but studies have shown that it's actually very counterproductive.

There's a lot of scientific evidence to support that there's a sweet spot for stress level where with a medium amount, you get optimal performance. Its an idea that's at least 30 years old in psychology. One could even argue that an activity as simple as creating clear, measurable goals creates stress because of the cognitive dissonance one experiences when not fulfilling them.

here's a very simplified model of the concept:

Just learn to not let anything stress you, and you'll be a lot happier. I've pretty much figured out how to ignore stress over the past year, and it's great.

When you realize that whatever you're stressing over doesn't really matter in the long run, you realize there's nothing to stress about.

I'll just pop on my favorite music, and either continue the task that I was getting a bit of stress over & just ignore the stressor in the equation, or switch to something else for a bit.

I'm with this. For the most part what I do (or don't do) that I'm stressing out won't have that huge of an effect on me in the long run. This is how I have almost no stress. I'm a bit optimistic on everything. Add that to the fact that I fit the typical surfer/laid back stereotype and it's rather hard to get stressed out. I know what I can and cannot change, and once you realize what you can and cannot change, you learn to stop stressing out about a lot of things.

For example, you cannot change the past. No matter what you do, and how hard you try, the past will never be changed. You could however change the future, and by changing the future you could potentially change the past that is written in our history books, but the actual past cannot change. So there is really no reason to stress out over something you cannot change that has already been done. If you fucked up, stop worrying about what you fucked up and just keep on moving along to try to either fix the situation you created, and avoid fucking up again. Both of those are related to your past, but your actions will not change the fact that you originally fucked up. So there is really no reason to care about your fuck up to start with.

The key to dealing with stress is to make decisions and take action. The moment you make them the stress lifts.

haha wow at the homemade fleshlight.

+1 for there being an optimal level of stress, but I suck at destressing when it gets too much... instead of taking time out to chill with my gf or friends I tend to put my head down and get more stuck into whatever was stressing me out.

Read "how to stop worrying and start living" by Dale Carnegie, it'll change your life. Stress / worrying are basically the same thing. I literally got this book a few days ago and I'm already living a 99% stress free life as a result, no b.s. Highly recommend
