When you create a new thread, the video doesn't show up as embedded in the preview, so you think it's just the link. Only after you submit the new thread, does it embed. However, it's not that case when you are REPLYING to a thread, it does show up in the preview then.

So yeah, it's just the youtube url without the s in https.

in short, the vbulletin youtube plugin used is old and pretty shit, but will work with a bit of loving

Was going to say this, except sometimes the OP embed doesn't display either. Only time I've had trouble is in the first post of a thread :/
 
Sometimes when you click to copy the YouTube URL, it serves you the player embedded URL instead of the native URL, and that can cause issues when you try to embed it.

For example, the following won't embed:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=M_MAGGIOx-A

A quick workaround for this is to do the following:

1. Copy and paste of the video's name in the YouTube search bar.
2. Find and click on the correct video in the results.
3. Copy the video's URL. You should now be served the appropriate URL.
4. Remove the "s" in https:// if it exists.
5. Paste the video URL and do a little jig.

So for the example given, the appropriate URL would be
