This has been a pain in my ass for a while now, and I'm getting a lot of mixed reviews on what should be done.

It concerns newbies. Should we continue to accept them, and deal with some of the dumbest, but equally amusing questions, or should we dump them altogether?

I would love to get rid of the newbies, as I feel they devalue the quality here significantly, but at the same time, many really cool new and old members here started out as complete newbies. I'd say 1:150 newbies turns into a real member of the community and earner and sometimes even a friend.

We already have more small, medium and large affiliates/marketers here than any other forum in the industry, and we're fairly well known for NOT being a good place for people to get started at, but rather a place for people who already know the basics and a bit more to come and learn and share more.

So what do you guys think we should do about it?

I think the ones that have the balls to get flamed horridly and still stick around deserve it, nough said

edit: ill just have to start flaming harder to weed out the weaklings haha

I'm just curious if low post count/recent join date qualifies someone as a newbie? I think stupid threads should be flamed, but I think newbies can become valuable members, like BYA who I thought was full of shit and would be gone in a few days (back when he posted the "I MAKE 100,000 DOLLARS AND YOU BITCHES AIN'T SHIT' or something like that.

Why dont you let them post in the newbie section. Then let them graduate to other sections once they prove they arent annoying the community.

I would be more than happy to help any newbs out. Everyone was a newb at some point so it wouldnt be right to kick them out of the site.

Agree with MK. Until they can prove their meddle, they can't leave the "kiddie pen". Once they start showing that they have some knowledge / worthwhile posts, then they can ask to be released.

Although, we should allow them to at least read the other sections, just not post there.

Yeah there are an influx of like 6 noobs in the past day. But I'm willing to bet three of them are the same guy (that warrior whistleblower weirdo).

It's true that a lot of new post guys are very experienced, and also true that just as many are stupid fucks. I like the way it's done now, where if they can withstand the flaming then they stay...but it doesn't always work.

What if you can only post in the noob section until a mod or someone with a certain rep flags you as someone who can come out. The way to be let out of the pen would be to make one quality post teaching people about something, and that shows you know what you're doing.

If you ask me all the noobs should be doing that anyway! There's no better way to get respect than to kick it off with a helpful thread.

Yeah so basically...new registrations can't post anywhere but the noob section until a mod, guide, or someone with a certain rep flags a post of their's as good.

Seems like it could work to me. Might piss some people off though, heh.

p.s. nice choice of signature

How do you define n00b and not-n00b? When a certain number of posts have been reached, or they reach a certain income bracket?

There has to be a better way of dealing with dumb questioners than banning. If you ban all the new blood, may your interbred offspring have 13 fingers on each hand and an asshole instead of a nose.

Even as a guy who has no reputation at all at this forum, this sounds fair to me.

I guess we can make one of those "certificate" programs or just give them a test of both WF policy/community and industry knowhow.

Then I guess we'd kind of have to do that with everyone here just to make sure we aren't letting the guys who are faking it really well pass it.

Damn, this is going to be a lot of work, I can just see it..

Tough question, I didn't join long ago but I'm not a newb in my business.

Maybe create a new subforum called "Applications" where new members have to post something about themselves, what they do, what they expect, how they found wickedfire, etc.

A premade set of questions must be answered, if it's not just nonsense, let them in. I doubt any ebook spammers or totally clueless people would really waste 15-30 minutes to write up something.

The idea of a quality post requirement, teaching people about something, is nice, too, but it would exclude those who are serious about their business, but not very experienced.

As said before, fresh blood doesn't hurt, especially if it's intelligent people who may not post the latest neat trick, but may start an interesting discussion with a question that isn't as obvious and easy to answer as it looks at first sight.

When I signed up for wickedfire I was a complete newbie, still am (Just read my first post. It's embarrising)

I'm so redneck, before Wickedfire I considered computers "free porn machines"

In the last few months I have endured the flaming gracefully, learned open source, and basic understanding of scripts, hosting, affiliate programs, etc, and created a couple of websites.

I will have to say that the fucking cry baby newbies are the problem. The only -rep I have received was from one newbie with 9 posts, and one with 2. Not that I really give a shit.

I literally have about an hour a day with my hectic live to spend on the computer, and I have to say Jon and you guys have given me a wealth of knowledge.

Basically, don't turn this into a frat. Just weed out the newbies that can't handle the flaming.

"If you can't handle the flame, get the fuck out of the fire."

What should be done about someone like me? I have a high post count, but I'm still pretty stupid.

I do tolerate the flaming well enough, however.

Ditto that.

I do think you could do this in a somewhat automated way... While post whoring is a bad idea and shouldn't be encouraged (well, except for whoring threads :D), it's not unreasonable to make a minimum post requirement within the noobie section for people who want to get access to the full site. Now I know that people can just post crap to reach that point - and that should be watched out for - but if they are new, it shouldn't be too hard for them to contribute to the newbie section for a bit.

Once they hit a certain post count, they are then automatically bumped to the rest of the sections.

There is a ton of really, really good content for the newbies, and putting it in one place and asking them to get their feet wet by reading it is not such a terrible thing. If they aren't willing to do that, they aren't really THAT interested in being here.

No system you come up with will be perfect, but making new people start at page one is a really good idea. I don't think manual approval is the best way to go.

Laura, former noob :)

I'm gonna get my balls flamed off for this, so here goes:

I say that we screw the whole "certification" idea. We keep newbies confined to the pen. We then have a select (or not-so-select) group of members (the key thing is that it can NOT be limited to the staff) who take a day or so every month and vote on who is good and who deserves to get their ass sent outta here.
