My 10 ideas for supplements and good health.
I would advise you to understand the role your kidney and liver have in your body. Like anything, supplements should be taken in moderation. Too many, and you face problems down the road. Case in point, my Uncle Chuck's friend who is experiencing liver failure as a result of too many supplements consumed over a lifetime. Your liver is your filter for your blood, think of it as a coffee filter, and anything excessive can harm or damage the liver over the long term. My uncle, also a heavy supplement user, has cut back dramatically as a result of seeing his friend , a former model of good health, dying before his eyes.
What I recommend in general for good health in 10 easy to understand points.
1.,A HIGH quality multivitiman
2. Flaxseed or fish oils, again high quality
3. Coenzyme Q-10 if there is any history of heart disease or stroke in your family health history.
4. A gallon of water a day. Why? Your kidneys will always be working well as opposed to being sluggish if you do not hydrate properly. If your kidneys are working well, then your liver will not have to help your kidneys out, which lets the liver do its primary jobs, burning fats, filtering your blood, etc.
5. Stay away from pharmaceutical drugs, generally they increase the risk for diabetes, a host of harmful side effects, dependency, and many other issues.
6. I believe most here are men, so basicially we eat what is in front of us. If you are gaining weight and do not like it I recommend buying raw nuts, carrots, and whatever fruits and vegetables you can easily graze on at work or at home. I eat lots of raw nuts, specifically cashews, walnuts, almonds, pecans, and others. Roasted nuts are basically "fried" nuts, and just in almonds more then 300 chemical compounds are created. If you give your body the right things, it won't crave the wrong things. Also, I have spent 2-3 hours in the gym daily so I know you can get fixated on it....Now I say this. Weight training is important for men and women, but you can get it done and look good in 20-30 minutes tops, 4-5 days a week. Every body is different, goals are different, but now I am focused on earning so it is hard to earn if I am in the gym, period. I also do cardio naturally, outside when possible.
7. For the gym guys who want to be buffed, I get it...but watch the creatine, it is tough on the kidneys. Drink your proten shakes, but choose wisely, go natural. If you want to burn, I recommend drinking Green tea or Yerba Mate all day( you may not know this tea yet, but it kicks Green Teas butt and burns all day , has tons of antioxidants, vitiments, amino acids, and polyphenols, and it burns fat, also guarana powder mixed with the yerba and a healthy sweetener of your choice. Get away from the packaged crap touting all kinds of burn ratios/etc, its just marketing rhetoric, think long term with your body and mind. I'll send you links of my 80 something guys whacking down trees in South America if you don't believe me. If you want to get ripped, I get it. But don't throw your "long term" body under the bus for the short term. You probably look good enough to get the girl you want anyway, so go earn with the extra time.
8. Don't feel guilty about ice cream, the alcohol binge, whatever you do, give yourself a day or two of guilty pleasure, but come back focused. You have to stay loose and unwind and gain perspective so let it flow by going crazy once in a while.
9. Don't get too drastic, as in no carbs/heavy protein. Coming back to the kidneys, protein is tough on the kidneys, as is creatine, so don't go overboard or extreame. I think a gram per pound of body weight is too high, just my opinion.
10. For cleansing, I recommend either the cabbage soup diet, or the master cleanse. Don't get fooled into programs that tout how they will cleanse you. It is simple and easy to cleanse your body from toxins, I have tried them all and those are my two best recommendations.
