During every football broadcast now, you can always bet that the broadcasters thank the troops for their wonderful service. Hey fuckheads, it ain't Veteran's Day anymore.

Not too hard to see what's really going on here. Those in power shoving it down people's throats that we need to be at war because we need protection from the enemy in the Middle East. What better way to do this than to advertise this shit while everyone in the country is watching their favorite football game.

The Sheeple being trained to accept that we will always be at war.

A couple of years ago I was high as shit playing Call of Duty and I was like damn, the government is definitely behind this game.

Preppin' niggas

Or maybe we just have a deep-seated appetite in our psyches to kill others... a transitional remnant from animal to human [dominance of the environment is what has made humanity what it is today], if you will.

But at the same time, we also know the wrongness of taking life, so there's a duality in play.

Duality is struggle.

Putting the troops on a pedestal is just another tactic of the government to recruit more young soldiers.

I agree with you on this one. I feel bad for anyone losing their life to fight for a religious cause, or to gain power over another country; but, it's really obvious that the government is behind a lot of this bullshit pride-enducing war BS.

Here in Canada, we have dozens of major roadways named the "Highway of Heros."
Every soldier and their family has a bumper sticker that says "If you can't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them"

While this is all good, and I have nothing but respect for those who enter the military... why do we all have to have it shoved down our damned throats? Anyone who doesn't believe in and support war is a second-class citizen in this society.

I hate evil; but most wars are started over the dumbest shit. Not to mention that the majority of North American society can't help but stick their nose into world politics and events every chance they get.

Gimme a break guys, it's marketing and nothing more. People and especially people that watch Football love supporting companies that support the troops. It gives fans a warm and fuzzy and builds trust with the brand.

Yep, of course... can't speak for the US, but the UK army haven't done anything that has materially "Defended Our Nation" since the 1980s, with the exception of a few SAS guys involved in hostage rescue. (and possible before - I'm not really convinced the Falklands were worth fighting over)

A bunch of people I went to school with joined up as officers right out of university - nearly all of them left at the end of their initial contract after they realised exactly what they were doing.

Well, for anyone 11 or under, the US has always been at war since they were born. So by now, pretty much anyone 18 or under has only ever known a reality where the US was at war. Oh look! 18 is military age. How neat.

Looks like their plan is working.

In my city cops were mandated to have a "support our troops" sticker on their cars. some cops were against it. many citizens were against it. but it still went thru. now every copy has the sticker on the back. so fucking lame.

I am thankful for soldiers in the same way I'm thankful for morticians and janitors: they're doing a job I'd never ever want to do myself but that is necessary for our society to function.

I'm not gonna get on my knees and suck off the soldiers as they've all consciously enlisted (IE not been drafted) but I am still thankful for what they're doing because that's a shitty job to do and I would never want to do it myself.

It's easy to take liberty for granted when you've never had it taken away from you.
Liberty is freedom from government, and the growth of the military is inversely proportional (necessarily so) to the amount of liberty you enjoy.

You're a better man for not doing it.

There is nothing wrong with not going overseas with a rifle to tell people how to live and what to do, and perhaps to kill them for not wanting to listen to you.

There is no honor or dignity in oppressing people.

That's really quite scary when you put it like that. Perpetual war.

The thing that's most saddening is how the military itself is so brainwashed. The majority of soldiers who'd read this thread would think that it's anti-war sentiment and that we don't deserve the "freedom" they provide for us.

I have found the opposite to be true for the most part. Some may not like it, but they also understand it is your right to speak your mind because of that very freedom they fought for.

Why you mad? Don't be. Cash in. Give something to one of those organizations and get a kick ass link from a site that is awesome. Then you can send out a newsletter and make one of those, 10% of our profit goes to xyz on next Tuesday kind of thing.

You build luv from your client base, and get some nice marketing, and generally you can do that with a couple hundred in product (make the donation in the form of product, generally it is better). Make sure you ask them to mention you on facebook, twitter, etc.
