Need a man's POV what do men really want for father's day? I want to get my dad something he'll actually like. My dad: programmer, mensa member, travels a lot (international.) So basically a good fit for WF just not gay.

I know this thread is troll food but at this point I'm stumped so nothing to lose... :D

Steak, Cigars & a seletion of fine single-malts.

Me and my brother got our father an ipad last year. He loved it and uses it every day even more than his laptop actually.

last year i secretly replaced the broken gate mechanism on his privacy fence a week before father's day and left without him ever knowing i was there... then when i talked to him on the actual day, i let him go on for a while about the mystery before i let him in on it. we had a laugh that he spent the week confused as to what the hell was going on.

ymmv.

- New monitor
- A nice mechanical keyboard $150ish
- Noise-cancelling headphones (excellent for flights.. Bose has nice ones) $300ish
- iPad ($500)
- Good quality VPN or Cloud storage for a year (no idea for $)
- Sweat pant dress pants (Gray Dress Pant Sweatpants - Betabrand) excellent if he travels in business clothes $100
- Suitjamas (http://legendarysuitjamas.com/) $100

You could always upgrade something he currently owns into something that's more expensive than he'd buy himself. Most dads are practical but like any man, will enjoy an upgraded version of his toys.

Good luck!

Advice from an old guy and 5 time Grandfather...

1-Good Scotch
2-Round of golf somewhere nice
3-How flush are you??? -- 3 nights in Vegas?

Get him something to do, or something to enjoy, not something to wear.

You guys are awesome :D except for the ongoing hooker theme this is all gold. Thai prostitutes just don't say "happy father's day to me" they say "wạn ph̀x mī khwām sukh khxng" amirite?

If you guys don't spend much time together book a couple days together where you can catch up and chill out. Somewhere with golf/entertainment for him and massages/woman shit for you, then meet back up and do dinner and catch a show.

I would have said Scotch or Bourbon + cigars and other shit, but once you said programmer and mensa, I threw those out the window

One does not simply cast aside a grand whisky for the sake of intelligence. It strikes me that like a legendary cask, like the more mature fellows here, do indeed have the finer intellect & taste. Cast aside instead your presupposition and allow your father the simple pleasure of embarking upon the experience of multitudes of sylvan flavour of the finest single malt known to man -

You have to be in the top 2% to be called mensa.

Do you know what the top one percent are called?
Multi millionaires

Seriously though. Don't buy him anything, have him come over and wax his car, then cook him a great steak and spuds. Sure you can get his car detailed, but doing is worth a lot more than spending. Or take him out for golf and dinner. He's probably like most dads in that he pretty much has everything already. What would make him happiest is spending the day with you, unless you're a douchebag of course.
