What were you doing online in '95?

I would have transferred schools in '94, and was in my 2nd year at new college. I believe back then Netscape was the browser of choice. I used Prodigy at home to get on the internet. I played fantasy baseball. You could easily find people you wanted to talk to between Compuserve, AOL, Prodigy.

They ripped you off royally on only so many emails per month. .25 per each extra over the limit. I do not recall the plans back then, I wanna say it was 9.99 or 19.95 per month.

Most porn was simply ripped off from the major studios and mags. As was most back then. People thought that you should not have to pay for anything, kind of like now, and that the internet Utopian dream was a reality. Which it isn't, and the dotcom bust proved.

There was little real corporate presence. The biggest scams back then were dials for the surfers, and paid per impressions for webmasters. Where no one was ever paid for the shit.

Similar to today in some ways with the youngsters thinking everything should be free, and different with the monetization and corporate changes of the web.

Hacking my friends pc's with subzero, I was an asshole... and I was on the never ending journey to find a nipple, which was a full time job back then. On the other hand, now a days I type the word cup in google, and between the first results are 2 girls shitting in a cup. This is not how I pictured the future. Flying cars have been replaced with "bangbus". A damm shame;)

In 1995 I was in 6th grade, and I think my first memory of anything online was being able to AIM and email with one of my friends from 7th grade. I had a Apple Performa 600 which was sold 1992-1993, so I was either online very little on aol or not at all. I remember getting a huge phone bill because of picking the wrong # and then shutting it off for awhile, lol. It was fun to search the member directory and go in chat rooms, and try to get to porn on really slow dialup, lol. When did AOL introduce unlimited access? that's when I really started using it. Sadly, I was never into the bbs or text adventure game stuff. A few years later I used hotline a lot. It was a cool community, I remember getting access to the original starcraft 1 beta a long long time ago and being really excited about it.

grade 3.

playstation.com

grade 4.

discovered internet porn and warez and things went down hill from there.

Yeah man... Met a girl online, she became my "girlfriend" before I had ever met her face-to-face.

Spent a shitload of time having phone sex with her late at night, and racked up a phone bill of over $300 ($0.09-$0.10 a min) which my parents nearly murdered me for. The next month it was lower, around $150.

We met face-to-face finally (I was only 15) it turned out we'd be at the same place. I told her what I'd be wearing. No cell phone, no texting at the time... Awkward doesn't describe it - but we hugged and then spent 5 minutes making out in public before I had to run and catch up with the group I was with. My friends were like, "WTF?! Who IS that?"

A few months later she came to my Homecoming Dance and we spent the whole time dry humping each other, until I went to my buddy's house and "borrowed" his bedroom.

I got to finger her, see her boobs, and received the most massive set of blue balls ever. We eventually broke up because there was another girl I wanted to hook up with... Hooked up with her (at age 15) and now she's my wife.

Thank you AOL surf chat! :love-smiley-086:

wow that's a nice story dude... surprisingly it's more common than we think. I met a lot of guys who met their wives online. A lot of them are too ashamed to admit it though... I don't know why. I'd be proud. Geek to da bone lol

Cool story bro

Seriously... I was captivated +rep

Hmmm... right around that time period I was using AutoMouse to spam AOL's bulletin board system in the video games category - sending all the clicks to a fake home page where all links lead to allclicks/bulkclicks at .03 (before it dropped to .01)

AKA - I got my mom banned from AOL.

Ahah!! Got my mom banned for serving warez in the old MM chat rooms on AOL.
I remember gettin in so much trouble, and a couple weeks later she walks in on me MaKiNg aN aPpLiCaTiOn fOr tHe CrEw from the brand new account I wasn't even supposed to know about.. she was HEATED!

how about grabbin software and having to tie up the phone line for 24 hours hoping you didnt get disconnected so you can finish your photoshop 5 download.

shit man, i remember buddies of mine burning me copies of apps and snail mailing them because it was more efficient, haha.

back when cd-burners were $150.00 at a computer fair, and when the thing spun up and read at 52x it sounded like a fucking jet lol...

hahaha that's how I got VB6 - in snail mail from a dude I chatted with on AOL. Fucking hilarious. In hind sight, getting that set of CDs changed my life for the positive.
