Where do you guys find good programmers?

I'll toss my hat in the ring. See my sig.

@Billy: What do you think a "good" programmer is worth?

Not sure if this makes me an expert on the subject, or a fucking idiot... But:

I've been fucked by more than one coder. Here's my suggestions:

1. If you've got the budget to pay well, then do so --> it won't guarantee you get someone good, but it will reduce your chance of wasting time and money.

2. You can find good guys that are mastering their coding skills and still willing to work on your projects.

3. Make sure there are no communication barriers. Perfect English and a working knowledge of SEO fundamentals is a good idea.

4. Work with coders willing to accept payment on completion.

I'm the great one, but pretty busy with my own projects :-) but coding sometimes for good friends, when they're desperate

Try to hunt on developer's forums.

Good luck. Why should I accept the risk of you never being satisfied (some people never are and will try to withhold payment while the scope creeps)?

Coming from the other side of the table... I only work with clients that:

a) have a decent budget and understand that they get what they pay for.
b) have a crystal clear outline of what they want.

If they don't have "B", then I have to go through some strategic planning and requirements gathering to document (for a fee) what they want.

There are tons of great Indian outsource companies. If you have a project, please PM me and I will get you a quote. I have over 30 full time programmers, graphic designers, etc... on retainer in India.
