Who here banks on twitter?

Stop fucking cluttering up my thread with your useless shit. It's annoying.

LOL!

You are a stupid fuck who hasn't done anything and/or is being lied to.

That or you are just making shit up.

I will leave you alone to figure out where your scenario just fucking blows.

Stick to opening threads about sex and eating someone's body wastes.

who the hell has 500k followers? If you are not a celebrity/big name in your niche you don't get anywhere near that.

That's fake followers and/or people who autofollow back. Not targetted at all. Also really depends on the niche.

But yeah... 60k/month off a 30k follower lists sounds stupid. Also I wouldn't exactly take anything he says seriously. Too much trolling. If any of his posts are not trolling at all..

I dont know her business model exactly, but she has a couple of oursourced workers who write tweets for her, and blogs / blog posts, and also setup twitter accounts... shes setting up like 6 new twitter accounts a day, (and also getting like 3 banned)... and yeh theyre just spammy accounts for IM an weight loss niches, and 99% built on autofollowing people then culling the follows then following more... done on a mass scale with many accounts - she makes her money by tweeting about blog posts, and on the blog posts there are signups to email lists...

^ please do take that with a pinch of salt, and I don't know how much she makes, decent enough, but a lot of effort and for sure u can make more on other traffic streams without nearly as much of an operation as this.

Back to your conversion rates. Let's say .1% of his 30k and growing followers are buying his $47 product (and keep in mind he has an upsell and downsell on the backend for about $127 which converts at 1 in 3). For our puposes, we're going to use a fairly realistic 20% conversion on the upsell (this is based off my own traffic though not twitter).

Off the bat we're looking at $1410 in a day + a potential $762 on the upsell. So the math definitely makes sense, there's no doubt about that. The only question that remains is how often he can keep this up and when does the list get tired of his products. He's been growing his followers for about 4 months now.

Im not a twitter expert, but I can safely say no, it doesn't work like that...

Those 30k are followers, not clicks, youre not getting even a 1% click through on tweets, but lets say you tweet 10x a day to a 30k list, maybe youd get 100 clicks from that... maybe... maybe more, I doubt it...

Its those ONE HUNDRED people who are converting at 0.1% - not the 30k.... so that is JUST ONE SALE - and this mirrors my experience.... that math makes sense to me..

And yes, as u suggest, it then gets worse, as he only has one product, u can't keep marketing just one product to the same list every day and pulling in $1.4k.. none of this adds up...

For sure you can make money on twitter, I'm not, but I can see this just doesn't stack up at all.

I have been using twitter to grow my reach and network. I have close to 90 (mostly) quality followers now, and I tweet 4 ~ 6 times a day with BufferApp.

I'm mostly posting niche (small business, entrepreneurship, marketing) related content and then doing some interaction by answering niche related questions and interacting with my own followers.

I get a 2% ctr, but it is very content specific. One tweet might get 15% ctr, and the next 7 will get bupkis.

This is good though, because I can start to see what content gets retweets and speaks to my audience, and what doesn't.

Twitter seems to me to be a fairly new platform, a lot of people don't know how to use it, and a lot of people don't check it regularly, so I really see this as being able to make relationships with the 1% that do get social networking, so that when this is more pervasive, I have a foothold.

I think twitter for the original purpose which Jack Dorsey came up with, which was status notifications for services, is pretty cool. But selling, it's not there yet. There is too much noise and not enough genuine interactivity.

I have similar feelings about Quora.

Do you think time of day affects CTR? Or are you always posting at similar times?

ZING!

that was what I was talking about.

Twitter is most valuable as a networking tool, not a broadcasting tool. You're much better using it to find business partners/media buys etc than blasting links out.

Twitter users as a whole are a lot more sensitive so to "spam" as they see it, so if you just follow a bunch of people then blast them with affiliate links, you'll just get yourself ignored.

Why you only have 90 followers guerilla? are you selling gold plated toilet roll where you only need one sale a year?

Why not scale it up... quantity is usually king over quality.. and somewhere like twitter you might as well just have extra followers, theres no penalty or extra cost, and it can be as easy as following 500 people who are following one of your rivals.. for sure there's gotta be some relevant followers in there..

Or am I missing something? I usually am :)

With Twitter, you guys looking for automation and so on are thinking about this the wrong way. The same goes for Facebook. You can't "game" genuine social relationships. If you want to do the follow un-follow trick, follow people who are likely to have a genuine interest in you, not just everyone - and post good regular content using something like BufferApp.com.. Check in a few times a day to interact with people individually too. For example, if you sell t-shirts, follow people who talk about fashion and t-shirts in their bios. This will vastly improve your ROI, CTR's and conversion rates in general.

You can start off an account using something like Twiends, but then you want to build it up with quality followers who engage with your content, RT, reply to you, etc..

My current account I'm focussing on has 2000 followers, of those I'd estimate ~500 are niche targeted followers, which is growing every day. Half my tweets are about niche relevant, interesting content on my site. The other half are jokes, funny niche related stats, tips, etc.. Of those 500 niche relevant followers I generate ~15 visits a day - the average visit length is 5:44, bounce rate is less than 50%, better than any other traffic source I have - beyond super targeted search phrases. That's about 3% of those visiting my sites each day. If I can use the model to scale up to 100k followers, that's 3k niche relevant visitors a day. I don't yet have enough data for accurate conversion rates, it's currently 2.5% over the last ~40 visits (which is since I started tracking conversions by source) which isn't nearly a big enough sample size.

Another thing worth doing is trying to rank for "*keyword* twitter", you'll be surprised how many searches they get. (Just check google KW tool for your niche).. Obviously it's going to get butt kiss searches in something like mortgages, but in say... tennis (so say you have an ecommerce store selling tennis gear) then you're talking 6600 monthly searches. Entertainment related terms will be vastly higher.

"*keyword* twitter" searches have minimal competition, at least at the moment, too.

I think I explained pretty clearly that Twitter is not a sales channel.

I don't follow people whose streams I don't want to read. In order for twitter to be engaging to me, I need to be following people I think are interesting and share good content or I won't read it, and if I don't read it, I won't use it to interact with people.

There are not many interesting people on twitter.

Also, the highest quality people on Twitter have ratios of 1:1,000 (or 1:10,000) follows to followers. The guys who have matching follows to followers rarely have more than a few thousand people in their twitsphere. And most of the followers are crap because it's people just following each other to bump their numbers up. Maybe inflated numbers make some people feel good, but I would rather have 90 genuine followers than 5,000 bullshit ones.

Or am I missing something? I usually am :)
I am not treating my twitter account like a popularity contest. As you might have noticed here, I am decent at social "games".

You don't create intrigue by being everyone's friend. In every relationship, someone has to earn their way in. I have never had success at projecting neediness. YMMV.

I disagree... I've found the most valuable twitter followers are those who you talk to via @ conversation or DMs regularly. The average person's twitter feed is so filled with noise that they probably won't notice you unless they "know" you. Talking to people doesn't scale easily, so it's best to be selective.

The exception to this is if you're running a very content-rich stream, either by producing a lot of your own content (i.e. blogging), or curating others' content.

The above is precisely because it's so easy to follow people on twitter. Most users follow anyone who looks vaguely interesting, then promptly forget them.

Between everything else I do, I just don't really have time to do this, and obviously this is why my stats are low...

But I need 1000s of sales, my sales are like $10 or $40 each.. not $5000 monthly seo clients or anything and it isn't worth my personal time to romance buyers like this..

I do however agree, and acknowledge the importance of individual relationships in my businesses, I hire someone who does amazing customer support for us, and I do spend personal time with top affiliates and JV partners etc... but I need real volume of customers with my current business model basically.

Yeh, point noted too - I hope that I can take the content rich approach into the future mind, posting blog posts, getting actual website visitors to follow us too, so not just re-follows etc

There is a great article out there somewhere about how Dell use it as a sales channel and made millions one year by running discounts and regular product focuses through twitter.. so I do believe it CAN be a sales channel.. but this is obviously the exception rather than the norm..

That's it really.

I made a decision early to keep avoiding Facebook (I am not on there personally) and focus on Twitter, then Linkedin and Quora. I think it is a better demographic match for what I want to do.

Maybe none of these social sites are a good fit for you.

Don't forget, forums are social sites too, and depending on your niche, there may be very large communities you can join.

Guerilla wanna be my tester when I'm done ;)?

I actually have a fully functional twitter account creator now:
