Who wants to get rid of the new "like" thing?

I do not like that you bumped this thread, but maybe I will appreciate it 6 months from now.

Step it up.

Enhance the "like thing" with customizable colors and audio features and strengthen WF's emotional bonds.

Inevitably the demand for a "love" thing would arise.

Now that is power.

I've never given a like I continue with reps. Don't have a problem with the concept in general but noticed interesting patterns in popularity and forum politics. For instance there is a small fraternal group of members who auto like each others post no matter the content. Certain threads get going with rapid replies and the likes traded between them looks like a forum barebacking orgy. Embarrassing even for a wicked gay masters hangout.

I also noticed that if 2 bros for life have a falling out they no longer like each others posts. Even within the same thread while agreeing with each other on the topic. They now withhold there likes for each other where before it was automatic.

Another fun social observation is how you can more quickly tell who belongs to which tribe, who pretends to be the alpha, and who is jockeying for the spot.

I like the like feature. Gives a whole new dimension to the forum as the noise to signal ratio gets worse and the spam and troll accounts bury the helpful content.

The likes have been a great filtering agent. If a post is "liked" by those I trust, I'm more inclined to read it. Otherwise, I ignore it.

Before the feature was introduced, I ignored 90% of the posts in STS and T&C. Today, with the help of likes, the number has grown to 95%.

Time is my ally.

Funny you mention this as I was just thinking about something similar yesterday.

Guerilla made a post that I "liked" but when I went to hit the button, I started thinking about him being a douche in one of my threads and then I thought.. "Fuck that douche, He isn't getting a fucking like from me! Asshole. I'll show him!"... I gave him the like anyways.. THEN I started thinking about how i am the bigger man for going through with the like! Lol... WTF kind of stupid shit is that to think about.. A stupid fucking like button. From a social observation perspective, it is interesting though. Ego is a hell of a drug.

I've noticed that as people "Like" more, "Rep" is used a lot less. Lesson - stick to whatever CTA you want people to use most on your page.
