Why all affiliate network managers use AIM?!

Don't be suck a fucking dick. The whole lot of you are being assholes. Too much time on our hands? As opposed to popping huge neck zits or sticking glass jars up our ass or ground up chickens or dickrolling the new guy? Whatever dude.

Unless something has changed in the last couple years Trillian always sucked ass. It never integrated with all the available features in the individual programs and whenever a change was made to any one of the messaging services it would stop working until a fix came out. I've never heard of Adium but unless they have some miracle product I'm going to guess it suffers from the same afflictions.

At least xentech made an effort at answering the question, and he's right to some extent. No one in Europe uses AIM. All the design and development people I have ever worked with use Skype and have headsets at the ready, the rest of society uses MSN.

What I don't agree with is this inability to change. It's only these two industries that seem to be stuck in the stone ages and unable to make the switch, which seems odd since they are ready to adapt at a moments notice to any other kind of situation in their businesses but continue to use the worst IM software on the market.

i agree with everything you've said.

i went from ICQ, back in the day, over to MSN, but never once considered making an AIM account until maybe a year ago, and only because of this industry. it's probably the worst IM protocol next to Yahoo's piece of shit.

That's interesting because the only people I know that use AIM are the ones I've met here. Everyone I know is on MSN and Skype. my ICQ is dead now too. Out of the 50 or 60 people I had on it years ago, maybe 6 are still using it regularly.

ICQ used to be the big thing years back, I've kept mine alive through Trillian mostly for nostalgia's sake.

AIM is a must simply because it's incredibly easy to use, and let's face it, everybody has it. You have no choice, esp. if you want to contact your AMs and bug them like I do :-)

MSN is a dog, my account gets hacked at least once or twice every 6 months, even with seriously difficult passwords to figure out. My friends constantly ask me why I'm MSNing them Russian porn sites - LOL. Thats when I shout "Dang, got hacked 'gain!"

It's kind of the same deal with 99% of major corporations using obsolete versions of Windows on all their machines. AIM is old and there's way better solutions out there, but there's 'too much effort' involved in making industry-wide switches like that, and no one wants to do it. I prefer Skype/MSN (moreso Skype), but my AIM list is twice as large as both of them combined, because everyone uses it.

Been using Trillian for years. The only problems I've ever had were with file xfers, but I just throw any files up on a server and done.

It's still the most popular overall. Most users are in the USA, but so are most affiliates and networks. They want to make it as easy as possible for people to message them. AIM works fine for that.

Just use Pidgin and you don't have to worry about AIM's ads or bloatiness.

Pidgin, the universal chat client

I haven't even signed into my ICQ in forever. But I like having the little green flower icon over there under my avatar.

AIM is popular in North America, and only in North America, engaging in three corner fight with MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger, with each garnering between 27 percent and 37 percent of IM users.

Since almost all networks based in US thats why

I never knew AIM until I joined Wickedfire and have been using it more and more since the last 2 years.

Because back when everyone had aol, they used aim. Also, it's really simple.

MSN kind of annoys me tbh. You have to give everyone access to message you, and people (especially british girls) use way too many smilies and shit in their status updates.

AIM keeps it simple. I just want to chat with my friends. I don't skype either (at least for writing).
