Why do politicians think its their job to NOT do what people want?

The only voice in america that should count are hard working tax payers. Welfare cases, illegal immigrants, drug dealers, special intrest ect, dont matter and shouldnt be heard.

That's crap, drug dealers should be heard, but they should pay tax too.

Not the ones i know. A guy i knew, i wouldnt call him a friend but i would call him a guy that i hanged with on occasion, sold pill he stole, found, got from suppliers ect.

He asked me to become a seller, and at one point i almost did. I was broke, my parents house just foreclosed thanks to my dumbass dad his gambling bullshit. Its a long story i doubt i have the grammar in me to spell it out right at this point in time. I couldnt get a car, i was really unhappy and i mean i really almost did. He would sold me pills for 5$ a pop. I could have sold them for 10$. I had 100$ at the time so i could have easily double my money in no time. He was going to show me the ropes but i backed off. He is still selling making money ect, i went with him once selling pills. He gave me 10$ just for coming along, being the lookout.

Long story short, he doesnt pay taxes on his drugs. He lives at home and is register as a dependent. Though he pays his parents to live at his house.

actually we live in a constitutional republic. which, fyi, is a type of liberal democracy

just sayin

That's like saying a square is not also a rectangle. We are a representative republic, with a constitution. That is nothing close to a liberal democracy though - just sayin'. I understand you "have always heard" we're a democracy, but we aren't, and we never were intended to be. Just because some idiots on TV say what a great democracy we have doesn't make it true. If you think we are, try introducing legislation and/or voting on it and let me know how that works for you.

So tell me again how democracy works...

Politicians are elected officials. They are there to represent and serve the people that elected them. If they fail to do this in the eyes of the people who elected them then they are voted out of office.

That's how it works.

I know it's kind of complex but don't worry... perhaps you'll learn something this coming November.

because our founding fathers had no confidence in the intelligence of the average citizen.
The Founders were not afraid of citizens as much as they were concerned about Kings and tyrants. They wanted to avoid democracy, but the republic is a political system intended to prevent the rise of an unchecked Caesar. It is designed to be a citizen legislature without a permanent political class.

If the Senators were still chosen by the states, and if the Congress was still proportionally selected, the US government would probably be a lot smaller.

Do you realize how retarded you sound? What you are describing is not a democracy. Please do some research before coming back in here to make your ignorance so well known. Why do you suppose you're the lone voice in the wilderness? Nobody is coming to your defense because it is well established that we are not, nor have we ever been a democracy.

You think you're big time with your 1900 posts and your grant campaigns???

Get the fuck out.

You think you're smart because you can make a very simple point into something much more complex than it actually is?

Get the fuck out.

Technically speaking we live in a Constitutional Republic... however, within our Republic democracy does exist in the form of elected Representatives. If you want to argue it then by all means do so but it's completely irrelevant to the OP.

The point is that our Representatives are not serving the people who elected them.

You have no argument whatsoever so you're resorting to irrelevant technicalities which is very common in the world of liberal academia.

Fortunately for you, and everyone else, we have a system in place that allows you to voice your concern over the actions of our elected officials:

VOTING

I couldn't give two fucks about number of posts, or any of my campaigns (grants? lol). I also didn't see anyone arguing that our representatives are doing a good job. But if you think the difference between a democracy and representative government is a technicality, you're beyond help. That was the whole point of the thread - the question was asked why politicians think they have the right to ignore the will (depending on whatever poll you believe) of the people. I simply pointed out that this is not a democracy so our representatives don't have to vote the way we want, and if we don't like it, we can replace them.

You rambling on about how a democracy works just makes you look uneducated since we don't have an actual democracy. Your say (or mine) on an issue doesn't matter. You may not want to believe it, and you certainly don't have to like it, but it is the way our system is set-up. I'm sorry you don't understand the way our government actually works, but I wasn't one of your teachers so don't take it out on me.

Wickedfire sheep...

I have made slight edits for clarity.

Unarmed Gunman you are correct.

Not quite an apology but it's a start.

I am sorry. Truly sorry.

Ah there we go. I cannot speak for UG but as far as I'm concerned, you are already forgiven.

I sound like a dullard.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Everyone make mistakes.

I'm so depressed at my insolence and ignorance.

Take it easy. This isn't that serious.

Help me. Please help me.

You seem very serious. Seek out this guy. He seems to know about things like this.

I feel absolutely horrible.

It's hard being called out. But remember that learning sometimes comes with a severe beating. This is what I tell my children.
