Why do we send murderers to jail?

The prison system should be converted to a self sustaining, non profit industry.

Revenue generated from mens prisons would come from Pay Per View blood sports and gladiator fights.

Revenue generated from womens prisons would come from camwhoring on an industrial scale.

We should outsource them. If you have to serve more than a couple years in prison they should pack you on a boat or plane and send you to a prison camp in a 3rd world shit hole where they can incarcerate you dirt cheap.

I'm willing to bet the crime rates would drop a little bit out of the fear of being sent somewhere else and not being pampered up in an American prison the rest of your life.

I think there are people in prison who shouldn't be there and that's something we can work on. But killing off murderers sooner, so they can't be a leech is wrong. Everyone has the right to go through the legal process like everyone before them. It's the price we pay for being more 'civilized'.

And to anyone who thinks we should just take them out back and shoot em I would hope to see your name on a list of people who are willing to carry it out. None of you would do it.

Killing off a bunch of people won't fix the fundamental problem which is the prison system. Killing off a bunch of prisoners would just mean they have space to fill and you could end up in the prison, filling those spaces on a bullshit charge.

In cases like this where the guy is apprehended on the scene with smoking guns in hand... Well, put that fucker to death and stop wasting tax payers money.

This is exactly my point. Obviously you can't put every suspected criminal to death instantly but there are definitely open-and-shut cases and they aren't even that rare. It's hard to kill 12 people in a public place and still be unsure as to who the killer was.

No matter the crime, I will never support government run murder.

The word murder is a legal term with a very specific and narrowly defined meaning, and you shouldn't toss it around as if it meant the same thing as killing.

Nothing wrong with going through the legal process. My point is this: it won't take long to conclusively determine that James Holmes is guilty of murdering 12 people. We'll know that pretty quickly. And yet, this guy is going to cost this country over $2 million dollars over the course of his life behind bars.

That's not the price for civilization. That's just wasteful.

that is very cheap when compared to india. In india for 11/26 attacker they spend nearly 200,000$ dollars a year for his prison. He gets five star hotel food.Seems surprised or not?

I agree the "instant death" capital punishment thing might be a bit overboard. Many innocent/framed people would be potentially put to death, only to discover years or decades later that they actually WERE innocent.

HOWEVER...

In cases like this where the guy is apprehended on the scene with smoking guns in hand... Well, put that fucker to death and stop wasting tax payers money. Cops should have put a bullet in his head on the scene anyway. Mentally ill or not, he shot up a theater full of mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, etc.

He gave up his rights when he started shooting innocent people who only wanted to enjoy a night out at the movies. And now they're dead.

The police didn't see him shoot at anyone, correct? They showed up and saw a guy in a parking lot with a gun. The shooter could have been tackled to the ground by moviegoers and then someone could have grabbed the gun and went out into the parking lot.

There could have been multiple shooters, the guy could have been part of a Charles Manson type group, or he could have had explosives set up all over town. Having him alive allows them to try to get information such as this.

For those that don't know, Manson was not found guilty of actually murdering anyone, his conviction had to with him being the leader who "brainwashed" his people into killing.

$2 million AKA the amount the US was spending every 4 minutes serving up "justice" in Iraq.

At the same time think about all the money that is being made from this. It's obviously bad to look at it that way, but at the same time I'm sure there is going to be more money made from the publicity from an event like this than just 2 million dollars. Then the government will make its cut from the taxes. Now obviously this isn't the case for every murder, but in this situation there is going to be a lot of money made because of this event.

I know a CO that used to work in a jail, they have a strong union backing, shit gets real if they start to release some of them.

To any fucktard that thinks it cost more to exucute him you are brainless, he will have his appeals to the sentence either way. The death sentance will come before we pay 50k a year until he dies of old age do the math. How much money do you think appeals cost 1 mil over 20 years?? Most of these fucks have public attorneys. To say it cost more to kill someone is the most brainless thing I have ever heard.
