Why does Obama want Healthcare reform so bad?

Mandatory insurance was actually at the request of the insurance companies. If they have to insure everybody, then they need everybody to buy insurance.
Which means it isn't insurance anymore.

Otherwise - of course - many people will only buy health insurance after they are already very ill - which won't work.
Right, which is why the insurance companies should be able to turn down people with pre-existing conditions.

The risk has to be spread between a large pool of people - mostly healthy wtih a few sick.
There is no risk premium when everyone has to get insured and the loss is distributed to everyone equally.

Otherwise insurers will have to keep cherry picking like they do now.
Why shouldn't a business be allowed to pick their customers?

Not to break up the libertarian party - but mandatory insurance is not truly a conspiracy.
It's economically irrational and it's immoral.

There are no magical "free rides" from government. All government can do is take from some people and give to others.

OK, agreed - it's not really insurance if it is mandatory and everybody can have it.

As a self-employed person, like yourself I assume, I buy my own insurance. Since I am probably much older than you, my premiums are very high - and rising every year - though I have bene lucky enough to seldom use my plan - I figure it will cost more than my mortgage in five years. But I will probably keep paying because I have little choice - being the person I am.

Meanwhile, Joe Sixpack goes to the ER with no insuranace, gets treated, gets on the county health system (which I must pay for in sales taxes). OK - not fair either, but I don't want to live in a society where we just let Joe Sixpack die (or his kids).

And the insurance companies will keep denying claims - or people will max out benefits because their employer (or they) bought some crappy plan that doesn't have good outpatient (and chemo is usually outpatient), etc. Then they too end up on the county health system - even thoguth they thought they had insurance. ...or they deny Suzy's claim because she had a pimple in 8th grade she forgot to disclose.

All I'm saying is our governemnt should protect us a bit - because insurance companies sure aren't going to -

All I'm saying is I don't really mind contributing to a safety net if it could be there for me if I need it.

Solutions? Because there is a problem.

Right. It is a national healthcare plan administered by the government with private profits.

The reason your premiums are so high is that there is no competition, and government administered programs like medicaid and medicare inflate the price of medicine.

Everywhere there is competition, there are lower prices. High and rising prices should be a signal to everyone that a market lacks competition.

Which begs the question, why? Why is medicine in so much demand, and yet the supply is constricted?

All I'm saying is our governemnt should protect us a bit - because insurance companies sure aren't going to -
The government cannot protect you by redistributing wealth. In the long run, it will make you and your children and their children poorer. The national debt isn't going away with more big government medical solutions. It is going to keep escalating as prices continue to rise, and your generation borrows money from China that your kids will have to make the interest payments on.

All I'm saying is I don't really mind contributing to a safety net if it could be there for me if I need it.
Most rational people don't mind paying for what they use. Being forced to pay for what other people use, or monopoly profits, or lining the pockets of politicians and bureaucrats is what pisses off libertarians.

Solutions? Because there is a problem.
Get government out of medicine. Medicine was much cheaper before government interfered.

There are much lower prices everywhere else on earth. Many of these countries have less competition and more government involvement. Therefore we cannot solely blame those two things for high prices. Obesity rates in the US would be another contributing factor, for example.

I'm having deja vu, lol.

There are three other explanations that are widely — but erroneously — thought among non-experts to be cost drivers in the American health spending. To wit:

1. that the aging of our population drives health spending

2. that we get better quality from our health system than do other nations, and

3. that we get better health outcomes from our system

Real causes are
1.significantly higher administrative overhead costs than are incurred in other countries with simpler health-insurance systems;

2.more widespread use of high-cost, high-tech equipment and procedures than are used in other countries;

3.higher treatment costs triggered by our uniquely American tort laws, which in the context of medicine can lead to “defensive medicine” — that is, the application of tests and procedures mainly as a defense against possible malpractice litigation, rather than as a clinical imperative.

obama is a show pony, that was easy to see the minute he won. No real "black" candidate has or will ever win an election without a couple of hundred white business dicks stuffed in his mouth.
