how many of you switched from XP and actually liked it?
just got a new box with vista on it, and wow.. i'm really not digging this :/

It doesn't really bother me. I haven't had any issues with it (once I turned off the "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS?!?!" thing).

I actually really like it. It's the little things like just pressing the windows key and start typing for the application you want.

I have to agree that UAC just blows ass. The fact that UAC made it into Vista really just shows how little input Bill had on this one.

At first I really hated UAC (but loved everything else), but it actually wasn't that bad of an idea. Along with Windows being the most secure OS, studies show that UAC is the BEST defense you have against rookits.

stack paper, you can turn it off by going to user accounts in the CP and selecting your user.

It was a good idea with poor implementation imo. They should have stuck to their "buy out whoever is doing it best" method and finding an outside company that already had a solution.

I really don't even notice a difference from xp --- I spend all my damn time programming/making sites anyway - so as long as my programming tools and firefox works who gives a rats ass :)

I still have a xp laptop - and another xp/ubuntu box - rarely turn them on.

I skipped Vista and jumped right into ubuntu.
It runs on all my machines and I am installing ubuntu right now on a newly aquired lappy.

Windows Vista is actually a downgrade in performance from XP, which is a vastly superiour OS unless you pass judgment on software based on window animations like people who love vista and macs do, in which case you'll fit right in with vista after you quadruple the amount of ram you need for xp so the bloated piece of shit will actually run at a usable speed.

No thanks.

Thats what I'm saying..
Running 4 gigs of ram.. and performance isn't real impressive.
Guh.

What kind of hardware are you running? I have 1 gig of ram and I have the same boot speeds between vista sp1 and xp sp3

At least you know that Vista is actually efficiently using that RAM through SuperFetch and preloading your frequently used apps, whereas XP would leave it to waste. Since you seemed upset with performance I would imagine you have other hardware that isn't up to par...

Adding RAM past 1GB (maybe 1.5GB) isn't going to improve performance unless your running programs that require memory beyond that. More RAM doesn't make your computer faster, your computer slows down when you run out of RAM.

This peice of shit looks pretty, but that's about it. Have you tried using the built in extraction for zip files? It's a complete joke. Gates needs a bitch slap over this.

My machine is always on, and the performance gradually deteriorates for me the longer it stays on, but I've found that if you restart the system every few days it goes back to an acceptable speed.

Why are you using the built in zip extractor? Get WinRAR!
