Wordpress; free or paid version for affiliate marketing?

I have a question relating to wordpress; is it worthwhile setting up a blog to make money using the free version of wordpress as opposed to the paid version[/FONT]?

I have read multiple articles, to name a couple – kirsty mckubbins guide to affiliate marketing on her blog and blogging to the bank. Both of them advise going for the paid version[/FONT]

Now – whether that’s a thinly veiled hosting affiliate marketing advertisement I don’t know but lots of ppl keep going on about it – aaron wall from seobook, a guy called yoast talks at length abt it[/FONT]

I have heard that the advantages of using the paid version r in the addons that u can use like anti spam and various others[/FONT]

So I’m sure it may be the best option for pros and serious bloggers that want to invest a lot into this[/FONT]

But how feasible is it to set up a free wordpress blog to do the same thing on – is it worth the effort or just really difficult?

ok, the font is fixed

I didn't mean about it been open source, I meant paying for a hosting account and domain and installing wordpress as oposed to just using the wordpress server
 
Your font isn't fixed. You just added new lines in between the text. I hereby boycott this thread until you've fixed your FONT.

Edit: just kidding. Get a domain of your own and some hosting if you're serious. You don't own a subdomain on wordpress.com, wordpress.con owns it. You want to own your web assets.

I was like, what... there is a paid version... Apparently there is if you want wordpress.com to host the website for you.

If you are trying to do serious affiliate marketing, you should also control everything yourself. You need to be able to turn on and off things, and have the option to add customized scripts, programs, and mess with the server's root access - Get your own hosting, download the open source version at wordpress.org on it, and put the plug-ins yourself.
 
There isn't the option to edit it now and when I did edit it the first time there was no font option, this is my first post and it was a c and p from a word doc so I will know for next time. unless the admins fix the editing options available
 
I'm also going to assume, that wordpress will only let you install plug-ins which they approve of, so some seo plug-ins, white, grey, or blackhat might not make the cut.

Also, they might limit you on pinging several ping services, to keep their resources in check. All in all, if you host it and install it, you can customize it, otherwise you have to play by their rules, and their rules can change anytime.
 
@CCarter; I'm sure paying for it is a bit better but u have to pay for the domain and usually for the hosting - well, there r some that just charge a one off fee of £5 but still - its a lot of hastle to install wp and pay for it all

I mean, how feasible is to to just use wordpress.com rather than wordpress.org?

Are you seriously not going to invest in almost $100 for the year to get your affiliate marketing off the ground? I don't know how much wordpress.com is charging, let me know, but if I was serious about affiliate marketing I would do it in a heartbeat. What niches are you attempting to go after, if you don't mind me asking?
 
I'm thinking about going into voucher codes, perhaps more specific types of voucher codes though because I was thinking there might be too much competition for just voucher codes

voucher codes because a, a lot of big name affiliates r doing it and b, because ppl have an incentive to click through your website to get the discount....well sort of....
 
Just a quick search and notice, you have some serious competition for 'voucher codes'. And if you say that all the big affiliate are doing it, it just gives more incentive on why you can't go down the cheap route if this is what you want. It's going to be an uphill battle, but it can be won if you know what you are doing.

Is this your first offer?
 
I have messed around with affiliate marketing before but I went off it when i realised how labour intensive the seo was gonna be and how long it was gonna take

I had heard that it takes 3 months to get any kind of result and it just seemed to be a very tedious and boring affair

so im thinking abt getting back into it but not sure if its worth it

the voucher codes niche is probably competetive and hard work, maybe soemthing like restaurant voucher codes or flight voucher codes may be easier to focus on, i dno
