We finally agree on something

Second hand smoke my ass. Wheres that data
Heart Disease
For nonsmokers, breathing secondhand smoke has immediate harmful effects on the cardiovascular system that can increase the risk for heart attack. People who already have heart disease are at especially high risk.3,5
Nonsmokers who are exposed to secondhand smoke at home or work increase their heart disease risk by 25–30%.3
Secondhand smoke exposure causes an estimated 46,000 heart disease deaths annually among adult nonsmokers in the United States.6
Lung Cancer
Nonsmokers who are exposed to secondhand smoke at home or work increase their lung cancer risk by 20–30%.3
Secondhand smoke exposure causes an estimated 3,400 lung cancer deaths annually among adult nonsmokers in the United States.6
Tell that to the dead kids parents.
That's the problem, everybody is too scared to put things in perspective for fear of seeming cruel. But the fact is, more kids died from the flu this week than died in Sandy Hook. It sucks, but shit happens. However, that doesn't mean we should limit the rights of 300 million people just because a handful of nutcases do crazy shit every so often.
I never said we should. Yet the school shooting epidemic is significant enough to take a look.
............if you turned on the tv every day and saw 1,192 people shot at a school plastered all over the tv (or lets say the twin towers fell every 2 days), wouldn't something be done to act? Why is our government so fucking determined to disarm us based on a few shootings? Why arent other things being addressed and only our guns when they kill very few people compared to other things?
Just a few things to think about... Theres obviously a different motive to all this
This isn't related to the thread, and I don't disagree with your argument, but related to the bold: Tobacco commercials were pulled from television because of a push from tobacco companies that helped them to end a prisoner's dilemma that was costing them millions each year. Thought some people might find that interesting. Carry on.There's just an inherent difference between smoking deaths and gun deaths.
Smoking deaths are basically always self-inflicted (yes, there are second hand smoke deaths, but they're greatly overshadowed by just smoking yourself to death) and are really a lifestyle choice. Gun deaths usually include two (or more) parties (though gun suicide deaths are also a problem).
The government HAS done a lot to try and curb smoking habits in America, with laws regarding tobacco advertisements, taxes on the sale of tobacco, warning labels, smoking in public and in private stores/restaurants, etc.
The problem is that most people just don't give a fuck; I doubt there are very many people left in America that actually think smoking is good for them (or at the very least, not bad for them).
20 dead kids is pretty fucked up.
There was 2 public execution style shootings in December 3 days apart.
Are you saying that 2 or 3 events like that a year. Dont warrant some sort of action. Im glad people are talking about it. But talk is cheap, something needs to be done.
Notice the killer is white?
Yes, something like rational thinking. "Something needs to be done" is such an emotional response. If you want to stop unnecessary deaths, you go after the highest value targets, like second hand smoke 50k deaths a year vs 10k for gun violence.
Fucking Linux strikes again.
You're more likely to be struck by lightning than die in a mass shooting. Fucking sheep.
