  • My wife's going to deliver our first child any day now.
  • My Mother in Law is out from Jersey and staying with us for a month.
  • to top if off, I got the ultimatum to quit doing dip (tobacco), and I'm 3 days without nicotine, which seriously sucks.

    Someone shoot me now..please!

You should be happy and looking forward to your first child. Nicotine ain't shit, it's all in the mind bro.

I know how you feel... yesterday was a stress ball from hell

• battery died on my car yesterday (dark and cold leaving work)
• hood latch broke opening hood to change said battery
• hit a goose by accident 5-min after changing battery
• gf tells me yesterday her parents are staying over thanksgiving weekend
• gf just told me her cousin is staying over now too... for thanksgiving... and sleeping in the office!!! my only place of sanity...

so much for a relaxing week/end

let us know when the baby is finally pushed out!

I feel your pain. For me, it felt like the weight of the world
was on my shoulders all at once.

-Will I be a good dad?
-Can I sustain and grow the finances to provide?
-How am I going to endure the endless advice from people?
-If I kill someone can I get away with it?

Congrats on your child and the smoke drop. (Nice timing lol.) enjoy
the experience.

Kids are a big stress, especially newborns. Be glad your mother in law is coming to help, I wish I had that help when we had our first. It's going to be really tough the first month, no joke. After that they start sleeping 6-8 hours a night.

Just know it does get better...then they turn 2.

Truth.

PS> Dig the name.

I'm really looking forward to seeing our daughter. I guess I can deal with the mother in law. My wifes all tweaked out about getting her job in a spot where she can leave for a month. It all weighs a bit I guess.

congrats

This is uncalled for, that ultimatum should have come 6 months ago, not during one of the more stressful times of your life.

Just know it does get better...then they turn 2.

2 is when they turn fun, the 1st 2 years pretty much suck though as they're totally helpless. Kids rock but baby's don't.

One more tip, get Dr Brown Bottles, they really help reduce gas and colic, which are two of the main things that keep babies fussy.

Basically if they start crying, its one of these:

hungry
pee'd pamper
pooped pamper
gas/colic

Just wrap her tight so her hands don't touch her face , that wakes them up.

Yeah...I know you've been through this shit. Still going through it yes?

Pretty much, yea least right now its just financial shit.

But I can tell you this much, the first child, regardless if its some emergency c-section due to preemclampsia + stage 1 Helpp , or a normal full term pregnancy, is always stressful. Its kinda like you knew you were gona have a kid during the whole pregnancy, but reality of it didn't actually smack you in the face til the final days of it.

PS: Even if I could clean this place up spic-n-span for the in-laws, I don't know if I could ever handle having them stay over longer than a dinner visit. Don't get me wrong, I get along great with them, but something bout in-laws wears you down mentally.

And while I don't drink, nor have I ever smoked, I agree that it is not fair to expect you to quit cold turkey just mere days before the expected due date. That's simply a recipe for turning into a cranky asshole right when you bring the kid home. (my wife actually loaded me up with caffeine before the 2nd and 3rd deliveries cuz she didn't want me being all pissy round her, not the same thing though... ).

Since we're talking about stress..

Stress is finding out your mother has stage 4 cancer that has spread from her lungs to her bones after months of excruciating pain and misdiagnosis from several doctors, then driving 2 days to be with her and seeing her at her worst from the intense chemo and radiation therapy.

Fortunately the bouts of chemo and radiation have her 90% in remission, so I'm not as stressed out anymore, but it's still there.

^^ That's really good to hear. My wife lost her brother (50) and her sister (44) to cancer last year. They were both diagnosed on the same day with different cancers and died within 10 months. No one should have to lose 2 family members like that.

The wife said "Oh whatever, he can just get nicotine gum".

I'm eating sunflower seeds like crazy. Chewing that shit was a nasty fucking habit, but a tough one to kick that's for sure.

d00d, go to the health food store and get some of the "mint chew"...it tastes fruity as fuck, but at least you get the familiar feeling of a plugged lip...which I'm convinced is half the battle.

Whatever you do, just don't start again once you're off the gack for ANY length of time...I quit cold turkey for over 30 months, got drunk with my buddies, bummed a dip...back to a can a week habit within the month.

And so young :( My mother is in her 60's.

Try pumpkin seeds.
