The Most IMPORTANT Video You'll Ever See

In the last 100 years we have gone from a little over 1 billion people to almost 7 billion, that is insane.

At the current population growth rate, 1.5%, in the next 100 years we will have about 31 billion people on the planet.... the current growth on the planet is not sustainable.

1. Growth rate slows with education and industrialization therefore same rate will not continue.

2. Within the next 100 years will will have massive wars with WMD's - greatly reducing population.

Remember what Keynes said, and I know from your posts you are Keynesian, in the long run we are dead.

I think the point of all these videos is basically:

Enjoy your bread and circuses everyone.

We are currently living in the 'Oil Population Bubble' at some point this bubble will pop and the world population will 'correct' down to sustainable post-Oil population levels.

... and know one knows how this correction will happen.

1. The world population has dramatically increased with industrialization. (see the last 100 years)

2. Maybe, but WWI and WWII didn't slow population growth that dramatically, although a couple nukes would kill far more people.

Keyneisan? No sir.

Yes, just as every other bubble does.

Eye roll.
Oil can and will be replaced.

To Infinity and Beyond.

Maybe, everything is made from oil, plastic, tires, gas, fertilizer, ect. Everything revolves around oil, entirely replacing it is pretty far reaching.

What are you, and ultra-religious zealot? It takes a LOT of FAITH to even suspect such a thing given our history.

Sure, I've seen (and posted here) the graphs by the UN that approximate future human population growth, but even those are very much using FAITH to state that we're going to be a much smarter race in the future and therefore curb our population growth due to future education.

-But I don't see any reasons at all to believe the huge educational initiative is actually rolling out. The same problems remain that stop them from doing so, and no one is addressing those... So anyone who says that the math in this film is wrong and we aren't going to hit 31 Billion or so in 100 years is TOTALLY TAKING IT ON FAITH ALONE. A very ill-informed faith at that.

2. Within the next 100 years will will have massive wars with WMD's - greatly reducing population.
Nagasaki and Hiroshima are totally rebuilt and even crowded right now.

Nukes aren't that bad. Seriously. When putting them in perspective of 100 years and 7 billion people, a few nukes can get detonated in major cities UNNOTICED.

The only thing that's going to stop this intense upward spiral is a DAMN serious education campaign, worldwide. Country by country just won't do it.

The poor & developing nations are the bulk of the problem, so it'll likely take a full-world government with authorization to Kill anyone standing in their way of making sure every last human gets a full education.

So that's not going to happen for a while. Certainly not before we're all elbow to elbow already and fighting over the last scrap of meat.

I don't care about peak oil, or any of that shit. I got a rough plan for when society starts crumbling, so caring about shit that hasn't happened yet is a waste of my time.

Seriously, who cares?

If you thought your next kids were going to have a miserable life with no food to eat and possibly have to result to cannibalism to survive, would you bring them into this world?

I would say that the world population is more educated today than in previous decades/centuries.

Nagasaki and Hiroshima are totally rebuilt and even crowded right now.

You think those people sprouted out of the ground? They moved in from other areas. Making this point was senseless.

By the way:

Hiroshima population density 1275 people square km
Paris population density 20,909 people per square km
Manila population density 43,079 people per sq km

Looks like we could still pack a lot more into that city.

The only thing that's going to stop this intense upward spiral is a DAMN serious education campaign, worldwide. Country by country just won't do it.

So you agree. Education does lead to lower growth rate in population? Crap man, haven't you seen Idiocracy? I get all my facts from movies.

The poor & developing nations are the bulk of the problem, so it'll likely take a full-world government with authorization to Kill anyone standing in their way of making sure every last human gets a full education.

You are a Commy aren't you? Where's that Commy thread again?

If you thought your next kids were going to have a miserable life with no food to eat and possibly have to result to cannibalism to survive, would you bring them into this world?

Exactly. More educated people and people in industrialized nation states think this way and have less children. It takes a smart person to realize how crappy everything is around us.

You do not think that the population growth rate slows with education and industrialization?

Birth rates slow, but the total population numbers continue to exponentially grow.

1 billion couples each having 2 children = 4 billion people
2 billion couples each having 1.5 children = 7 billion people
3.5 billion couples each having 1.0 = 10.5 billion people

It's true that each couple on average is more likely to have less kids than ever before. In the above example, birth rates would be cut in half, but overall population numbers are still increasing rapidly.

Many people have trouble understanding exponential growth, because we're used to things growing "linearly" -- the same amount from one day to the next, like hair or grass or fingernails.

We expect the bottle to fill with bacteria as if we were filling it with water from a faucet. But any time living things are allowed to reproduce freely, their numbers increase exponentially, not linearly.

Of course I do. It's part of _my_ point. Are you trolling or something?

I would say that the world population is more educated today than in previous decades/centuries.
I would say you apparently aren't one of the educated ones.

You think those people sprouted out of the ground? They moved in from other areas. Making this point was senseless.
The fuck it was.

If you look at the bigger picture, which is necessary to examine your ONE HUNDRED YEAR point that you made before, the world population took a miniscule dip during 1945 that doesn't even show up on any charts zoomed out to the 100-year level.

In fact I dare you to search teh googlez all day long and find me one single chart on the internet where you can even SEE a dip in the chart of world population at the time of the bombings. They certainly don't show up on this page anywhere.

So you're just not getting it. Dropping nukes makes almost 0% impact on world population. Meanwhile, the Baby boom that came a year or so later has made the largest impact on world population, ever, in history.

So the conclusion is: War = Major Population Explosion, not reduction.
(Assumably by the side that won)

That's FACT. Deal with it.

You are a Commy aren't you? Where's that Commy thread again?
You are a Troll, aren't you, please leave trolling statements like this back on the less serious threads.

You're almost there... You're so close... You just haven't yet added to your little worldview equation that:

it is not at all assured, much less easy, to educate enough people to change anything.

I mean fuck, who are WE to educate anyone anyway? Our educational system here is one of the world's worst.

There are people in 3rd world countries laughing at american schools on a daily basis, yet these same people are powerless to stop the uneducated people around them in their homeland from reproducing like bunnies just to watch these babies starve to death.

There are a number of things standing in the way of educating people. Dictators and poverty in the developing countries, Corporations and politics in 1st world countries.

The UN numbers and world conception on how many more educated ppl there will be in the near future was apparently written by unicorns and fairies. There is NO grounding in reality to said numbers, and like the movie Idiocracy points out, we tend to trend AWAY from education, not towards it.

Face it, in 50 years the average world IQ could very, very easily be half what it is today... All of the estimates you and the UN have considered need it to be double.

Now Moxie, don't be unrealistic... people don't split in half like bacteria and reproduce exponentially... Our curve would be much more gradual than that...

Oh wait...

I am sorry. I am not trying to troll the thread, but the subject is ludicrous so I cannot help myself.

The above chart certainly shows how Adam & Eve, had they really lived close to 1,000 years could have populated the earth.

Like I said LukeP, I am sorry, but your passion over worry for the future is misplaced. You underestimate the human capacity for innovation and adaptation. One simple advancement, say in providing unlimited energy, will change the dynamic on its head. How about the ability to make food? One advancement where a super pill gives all the nutrition and calories we need and there goes the problem. One advancement where a material is made with some of the unlimited energy mentioned above and then disappears after use eliminates much of the toxic waste etc.

The market, driven by the mind of those that are rewarded by the market, will address any growth problem as it happens. These academics assume everyone is a real troll, on the public dole, and they do not account for the greatest powers on earth, the human mind and the human will.

The video is crap. Humans, driven by that all powerful self interest, will survive without issue.

Your argument over education is BS also. You are looking to the masses and their crap education. At least they are getting some education. The fact is that the people that are educated in the top universities are far more able than any of the masses. Add to this the ability of our economy to reward those brilliant people that want to skirt education, (Jobs, Gates, Etc) the world will survive.

Navel gazing and admiring these dumb ass professors is for the masses who go to standard universities and still end up one of the masses. Sheer stupidity.

Like I said LukeP, I am sorry, but your passion over worry for the future is misplaced.
Again, you misunderstand... This issue isn't my passion. It's just common sense.

I wouldn't normally be 'passionate' about such a topic, and my heart isn't pumping any harder when I enter this type of thread than when I read about the latest google search engine Algo changes... It just sounds to me like you're trying to argue that the world is flat and I'm trying to help you see the real shape.

You underestimate the human capacity for innovation and adaptation.
And you have too much faith in humanity. And you are likely overestimating the Worldwide educational system advancements it would take to combat this problem.

One simple advancement, say in providing unlimited energy, will change the dynamic on its head.
1. You call that simple?

2. No, it wouldn't. Some of us wouldn't run out of energy, granted, but the world's still going to overpopulate fast.

How about the ability to make food? One advancement where a super pill gives all the nutrition and calories we need and there goes the problem.
1. You call that simple?

2. No, it wouldn't, more food means more overpopulation.

3. No, it wouldn't, distribution is still bottlenecked by dictators and corporations. See 5 posts up.

One advancement where a material is made with some of the unlimited energy mentioned above and then disappears after use eliminates much of the toxic waste etc.
1. You call that simple? That's nothing short of star trek beaming tech!

2. And now you're stacking 2 tech miracles together.

3. And that still doesn't stop all the overpopluation, it just gives them more places to live.

The market, driven by the mind of those that are rewarded by the market, will address any growth problem as it happens. These academics assume everyone is a real troll, on the public dole, and they do not account for the greatest powers on earth, the human mind and the human will.
What was that? All I heard was "Faith faith faith faith faith and jesus saves..."

The video is crap. Humans, driven by that all powerful self interest, will survive without issue.
The video showing you factual arithmetic is crap? Wow. Did you really watch it?

Do you also believe that 5x5=10? Sounds like you do. Really, the answer is 25. That's how math rolls, yo.

Your argument over education is BS also. You are looking to the masses and their crap education.
Um, YEAH, the ones doing all the breeding, which is our point here...

You hear the word education on this issue and you keep thinking of it in terms of how it only takes a few to invent the saving tech you want to see created one day.

But our point, and the point relevant to that film, is that you should be more worried in what the AVERAGE education out there is, because it's the Masses overpopulating this planet, not just the top scientists.

At least they are getting some education. The fact is that the people that are educated in the top universities are far more able than any of the masses.
And how many of these top-educated ppl are being produced in comparison to the other 7 billion?

Add to this the ability of our economy to reward those brilliant people that want to skirt education, (Jobs, Gates, Etc) the world will survive.
For the situation I fear happening there is no useful technology at all, none, ever, nada, could never be... It's not tech I'm worried about, it's 10 TRILLION people due to arrive too damn soon.

With godlike tech you may be able to feed them, clothe them, whatever else you want to do with them... But the bottom line is they'll be here, sharing these 57,511,026 square miles with your grandchildren.

But the world will truly be shitty, regardless, with that many people stuck in close quarters.
