Top 400 Taxpayers Paid Almost As Much in 2009 as the Entire Bottom 50%

I'd also be curious to see how much "social" money the bottom 50% uses compared to the top 400 taxpayers. It's not just the imbalance between how much they're putting in, but how much they're taking out.

In before this thread turns into political chaos!

Sounds plausible. In the Peoples Republic of California, the top 1% pay about 40% of all income taxes.

Just imagine the mess the country would be in if those 400 people decide to get up and leave to somewhere more hospitable to producers.

Math is wrong.

At any rate, personal income tax should be abandoned, with a flat 30% no exception tax leveraged against all non citizen entities after the 2nd year of business.

The top 400 get a lot of social and economic welfare too.

The notion of the state isn't sustainable. There has never been a sustainable government with paper money.

You can't get rid of all taxes, stop being silly.

Ok, how about we just tax idiots and fat people? Anyone with an IQ below 100 pays taxes. Also, anyone 15+ pounds overweight pays taxes. The fatter, the higher the taxes! That should yield a lot of tax revenue! The IRS could perform audits outside of McDonalds and Popeye's. :)

The 400 made less than 1/10 as much as the bottom 50%.

Also, like tangy said, I'd love to see how much money the bottom 50% eat up via "social" programs.

I skimmed it and read it wrong (didn't really read it since it's just some blogspot page). Either way, I just shrug my shoulders and say "so?". You can't squeeze blood from a turnip. I'd rather be filthy rich and pay 50% of that to taxes, than be poor as dirt and pay no taxes. If you live in the U.S., those are your choices.

It's all legit, links directly to irs.gov pdf's.

The bottom 50% are hardly all turnips. Most of them have big screens, cell phones, and countless other luxury items.

I heard some of them even have fridges! Who the fuck do these people think they are? Chilling their food, as if they're all rich & fancy. Fuckers...

Where can I sign up to be filthy rich?

Becoming filthy rich means sacrificing a lot, taking a lot of risk to give value to everyone else (in most cases). That should be rewarded, not punished.

Those "filthy rich people" provide the cheap items the "poor people" buy and rely on. The more you tax them, the more they will have to raise prices which in the end is bad for everyone.

Maybe some taxes are necessary, maybe not. I don't know. But either way, current taxes are way above the "necessary" level.

Point is they aren't poor. One minute they're buying big screens, next minute they're at an OWS protest because the rich don't pay enough in taxes, then off to the fucking food stamp line to get their monthly supply of frosted flakes.

I wish ALL social entitlement programs would be abandoned in favor of a fair health care system and livable minimum wages. A good trade-off as far as I'm concerned.
