That's just a matter of how it's set-up I guess.
This is a big problem that needs to be solved, but it's complex, and will affect any solution, public or private. Much like rising dementia cases.
I guess just a way of life in America. Default answer to so many things seems to be "sue the fuckers".
In the UK everyone's issued a national insurance card, something along those lines with each person having a unique number you can look-up to determine their level of care/etc would sort that. Illegals won't be on the system.
Non-vital & cosmetic treatment prices are going to at least partially be a factor of the market in the end. As they should be. Hospitals can be required by law to sell drugs at a maximum mark-up or with no mark-up (I've no idea what the law / standards are around this stuff?), and then bill for doctor's time. Better doctor, higher charges. If no one's paying for that doctor's time because he's too expensive, he's forced to reduce his prices.

This ruling gave Congress UNLIMITED taxing power, they could tax 100% of your income for any reason now, and it's already been decided by the SCOTUS. They could do it today, unchallenged.
War bonds, life insurance... Even if Obama doesn't abuse it (he abuses everything) it's wide open for future abuse. We've lost 100% of our economic freedom.

The lobbyist for this bill were the major insurance companies (the ones Obama demonized when campaigning with his reform plan) and the major pharma companies, they're financing this.
Besides the individual taxes, there are over 20 other taxes, including taxing profits from pharma, insurance companies, hospitals, etc that the American people will have to shoulder.
There are provisions in the bill that allow "health inspectors" to visit homes, assess economic dependence, health, coach parents on how to raise their children. There's a provision that they can dictate what we eat. There's a provision for a fucking doctors draft. Read the bill, I'm serious.
The IRS will literally be policing it (they already have guns) allowing them to invade our private lives.

This bill is just a bandaid on an over regulated industry, before medicare and medicaid 75% of Americans had private health insurance and that is when the industry was still in its infancy. Then the government stepped in and drove the costs up and has continued to add more and more regulations/bills...driving the cost up even more.

What were the prior limits? I'm not aware of any.
They already had the power to force people to fight in wars, lock innocent people up in internment camps, ban Big Gulps, etc. I'm not sure why this a straw that broke the camel's back?
