Offline Business == Power?

Today I made a strange realization:
As an online marketer, I might have accumulated some currency, but I'm as "powerful" as a toilet cleaner.

I always hear that people want power and money.. but so far I never gave a shit about power (basically I thought power was lame).

However, imagine you are a diplomat or a powerful CEO:
- when some shit happens to you, you might have connections to help you out..
(when not even the most expensive lawyer in the world might be able to help you.. e.g. diplomatic connections)
- when you need capital/loans for a business
- when there is war or people get raped like recently in Cyprus

I guess some of you guys even might have some online authority.
e.g. I could imagine if you are the owner of TripAdvisor, you have some "power" when staying in hotels ;) (or not even that).
ofc you could have power in the sense of connections to affiliate networks or offers, but that just doesn't really reflect in real life yet, does it?

Isn't that a tremendous disadvantage for all online marketers? :stonedsmilie:

Not really. I guess you've never been to LinkedIn before, but online marketers - above all other entrepreneurs - have the ability to accrue a massive network in whatever industry they work in.

Not true.

There isn't a big city in the U.S. that I don't have affiliates/friends met via online marketing where I wouldn't be completely taken care of..

I think we've got the advantage for sure.

Right, I'm sure you have some online pals, but that's not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about living a privileged lifestyle through the power you have.
(where the power directly gives you the privileges)
primitive examples
- you or your "connection" is the owner of the best nightclub in town, so you automatically always get in and have a table and so forth..
- you are the owner of a big oil company, so you automatically have meeting with the president, you influence tax situations, ...
- you are the CEO of an airline, automatically you can fly first class for free with your whole family
- you are a hotel manager, you can enjoy staying for free in the best suites of the chain that you are working for

So where are the perks when you are earning money online?

It all comes down to scale, for example a local plumber may have more away then say an online marketer but Mark Zuckerberg has more power then both of them, it's all comes down to how big of a network you have and how much money you generate, can generate or have access to.

That shit is all meaningless.

"Power" is overrated and mostly only sought by egotistical narcissists with serious personal flaws.

With money you can get into any nightclub you want. At least I've never had a problem. And if you couldn't, who gives a fuck? Go to a different club or go do something else. Only a douche would care about something like this. Who gives a flying fuck about having a meeting with a president?? Seriously. If Obama invited me over for lunch I wouldn't even respond. I can already fly first class and stay in the best hotels with money. I have real power - the freedom to do anything I want any time I want.

I'm guessing you're 18-24ish amirite? Basically you don't know shit about what's important in life.

I hope you realize you don't need money to be powerful. I wanted to introduced Gandhi here but I've got better example:

Myself.

I dedicated my life to Trolls Union making it the most powerful trolls union known to humanity. Last year I was on the list of the Most Powerful Women on the World, 6789567 spots below Hilary Clinton.

But my story doesn't finish here. When my husband, Ice, became mod we became the most powerful tandem on WF (by that I mean hetero one - the most powerful gay couple is still Jeffrey and Dwight).

Just being an online marketer does not necessarily prevent you from having great connections in cities. It's up to you to go out and be social enough to meet individuals from all walks of life.

Regardless of the fact that my work has been primarily online, I have found the time to go out and meet plenty of restaurant owners, bar owners, and other business owners in a wide variety of online and offline industries. It's called being social. Do I want to be famous? Fame sounds like the kind of "power" you want. Want to be famous? Go do something remarkable. Get you or your business some PR.

Jesus Christ...
What you just described, is exactly what I have been thinking for my entire live. You don't understand what I'm trying to say, at all..

I will try to get a better example for you:
Imagine you are on a vacation to Egypt, and you get busted with weed. Since it's a muslim country, you have to serve 10 years jailtime for that over there. Now what faggot? Still think president obama is a lame asshole? because your 10mill doesn't help you now. would be handy to call his ass and ask for diplomatic assistance, no? (or replace obama with some diplomat or other powerful person).

The point is, power could give you IMPORTANT / live saving / business saving privileges.. privileges that money can't buy. it's not about a nightclub entrance, although that's a valid (but primitive) example (as I mentioned originally).

of course not, all I'm saying is that being an online marketer doesn't bring such perks with it.. compared to being a CEO of a oil company or whatever.

Your problem is in assuming that money = power. It doesn't.

KNOWLEDGE = power.

& I've found quite a bit of that online.

Hmm, I apologize when I was unclear, but actually what I was trying to say is that money != power.
"i might have acquired some currency, but still I'm as powerful as a toilet cleaner)

Money alone only gives you purchasing power. Loyalty, relationship/connections, love and influences are one of those things that money alone can not buy.

I understand what you're trying to say although I fail to see your questions.

Having money alone does not automatically make you a "Big dog" or anyone of significant. You need to invest more than money in order to gain these so called privileges.

Likewise, money is not a requirement if you want to be influential. For ex, famous human activists are poor as fuck yet they could be very powerful and influential. The list goes on.

What I'm trying to say is that making money will not prevent you from acquiring power/influences.

Hurr durr I can't and I don't have it so I'll just say I don't want it.

I know exactly what OP means and hes right, spending your days online can earn you money but it doesn't give you real, powerful connections. Access is real power, not money.

Now you're taking it to a place where the many libertarians/anarchists on this board are feeling discomfort with the thing you desire.

If you truly want to wield the kind of power that gets the state to give you unfair favors, then that in essence makes you the exact thing that we want to destroy.

Go suck on a hand grenade, OP.
