I run Leopard & Vista on my new MacBook, XP on my old laptop, XP on my desktop, and CentOS Linux on my 2 web servers. Vista runs pretty nicely on the MacBook, considering that I had 4GB RAM and the fastest processor they're offering.

Only con about Vista on a MacBook is the missing ability to "tap" the touchpad in order to click. It works in Leopard, and apparently another set of drivers enables this for Linux on MacBooks, but no fix for XP or Vista yet.

dude, can you tell me how to install wmii? i tried dwm and failed to install it.

I find that ubuntu packages of the suckless.org stuff are usually broken. Just download the tarballs; make; make install. And don't forget libixp (from their site as well).

for those having issued with vista, try Readyboost. Basically you plug in a 2gig or 4gig USB drive and vista will use it as a very fast caching system.

Makes a HUGE difference in performance !

I use XP and Linux. I do not care for Vista. Maybe once there is enough drivers out there I would be happy with it. But as of now I don't want it around me!! I th it was major mess up for windows to release Vista so soon.

God, I hate you.

My wife got a laptop with Vista preinstalled. Vista is such a resource hog! And performance is abysmal, booting is slow.

get a cheap flash drive or SDHC card (2 - 4 GB) and use the readyboost feature (you can search google on how to do it)

i've always been a windows kind of girl, but i'm looking forward to getting a mac in the future for photos/video editing

Using vista and loving it... perfect stability, speed, everything just WORKS, seriously.. dont believe all the bs spread about vista, its a solid OS. OSX doesn't really offer me any benefits other than a huge price tag and a sleek box, plus I like to play games.

Tried redhat, mandrake (back when it was called mandrake), gentoo and had enough of it when I couldn't get drivers for my ATI graphics card or my tv tuner card.

I use centOS on my dedicated server and it does a damn good job, thats where linux belongs!

On a side note, can anybody actually state reasons WHY vista is crap? I would seriously like to know what everyone thinks... Just about all anybody can come up with so far is DRM, and yeah that was all a lot of hype.. it doesn't effect anybody at all.

I bought a new thinkpad T61 with 2 GB of ram. I have vista home on it. If froze twice in the first 15 minute of use.
