I did that diet last year and lost about 20 pounds of fat.

Quick question Mike,
I was looking into getting a trainer out here, maybe for 1 or 2 sessions a week, however, I got quoted ridiculous prices (like $150-200 per hour), probably because I live near Hollywood. Anyway, what price are you paying and what's reasonable? Am I the one being stingy? I probably wouldn't wanna spend more than $500 a month on personal training.

Just get a trainer to learn the basics and routine for a month, then do it yourself after that. Personally there's nothing better than a partner and an ipod.

If you are obese, crash diets are a waste of time and can do more damage.

You have to commit to lifestyle changes, not rapid weight loss tricks. That means learning how to eat properly, and eat things which help you get your portions under control. You also have to commit to some sort of increased activity and better sleep.

Don't be a sucka like the people who buy free trial weight loss products with Oprah endorsements on the lander. The only miracle cure, is deciding that your good health is a priority and you are ready to start treating yourself well.

fyi, Atkins isn't a crash diet. You take things in phases and build to have healthy carbs, controlled portions and more. Whole grains, avoiding things like HFCS, fruits and vegetables are a-OK, breads that are whole grain, etc.

Since November, when I first started (then I took time off) and went back on on Ash Wednesday (catholic guilt), I've lost around 30-35lbs. Went from a 36 waist to fitting in my old 32s, and doing workouts to keep in shape.

Your going to become a fatass drinking 5 shakes a day. My friend jake uses NoXplode and he can shoulder press 300 pounds.

We have a LifetimeFitness here (just checked the map, they don't have any California locations). Anyhow, I'm paying way under $100 per hour. At this club, if you prepay for the hours you get a really good discount. Maybe there's a local club that does this as well.

NoXplode and Protien powders are two different things. NoXplode is a Nitric Oxide and contains Zero protien. Nitric Oxide is supposed to help open up your blood vessels and get more blood to your muscles to increase the amount of time you can work out and reduce recovery times (in addition to all the other benefits). Whey Protein is exactly that, protein. They two are used for different reasons. I'm on both, but not 5 protein shakes a day. One or two. They're about 380 calories per shake if you include the calories in the milk. For Nitric Oxide I take the Xyience capsules. The powders, like NoXplode, taste like ass (IMO). I'm also taking a good multi-vitamin, and drinking lots of water.

I say it is a crash diet, because you crash into it. Sure you build back, but the biggest weight loss results come up front.

I've done it a couple times, but not in the last 3 years. My thing now is to go further than reducing carbs and to cut out processed foods almost completely. Not for a few months, but to stop eating processed junk and focus on whole foods. Since AM gives me the opportunity with my lifestyle, I try to cook nearly every thing I eat. I'm successful for about 80% of my food intake, maybe a little more.

That's awesome. Keep it up. Just remember it is a lot harder to stay in good shape off induction unless you commit to cutting out crap.

Id have to agree to papajohn56 and disagree with guerilla.

Im on Atkins right now and its for sure a lifestyle change that does come in phases. Im sure most of you all know what Atkins is, but in a nutshell its eliminating carbs and sugars for the first 2 weeks ( sugars including those in fruit as well ). Most of the carbs you eliminate are breads, root vegetables, nuts, etc... You are actually allowed 20 carbs a day for the first 2 weeks though.

After the first 2 weeks, you can start eating fruits again and get to introduce 5g more carbs a day per week until you start to NOT lose weight on a weekly basis. It may take you a total of 6 weeks to learn that 40g a carbs a day is your stopping point, which at that point the 7th week you cut back 5g to 35g a day and you stick to that carb count.

It for sure a diet you don't wanna do if you wanna get ripped, but it has worked for me and lots of others without being a fad. I find it easier then weightwatchers or jennycraig or southbeach as far as what I should do or not do.

I know that personally I should be exercising more and other things.. but Im so busy in the day that I just wanted to knock out some weight before I start exercising and commiting to that. I know exercise is very important to a healthy lifestyle, but for me controlling my diet was WAY more important. Once I get to a level I like, I will introduce some cardio like tennis and running.

SEO_Mike, how is yours coming along?

noxplode is trash

get on no-shotgun if ur serious about working out, and pre-workout drinks
shit is the truth

I get your point, but just cutting carbohydrates is not a lifestyle. It is a diet in the short term, not regime sense.

A lot of people read New Diet Revolution, but skip chapters 20~28. They just read the sexy weight loss stuff in the first two parts.

Or they have not read Atkins for Life.

SEO_Mike, how is yours coming along?

Just did a weigh in couple days ago and measurements. Lost an inch in the waist and 10 pounds gone. Total loss to date is approx 15 - 18 pounds (depending on the scale). It's a start at least. I'll get excited when I can say that I'm under 300.

Thanks for asking :)

The used treadmill I bought a few weeks ago was a good investment. The other day I walked 4.5 miles across Queens without sitting down, spent a half hour shopping in a store, then ran up 4 flights of stairs to the subway and wasn't winded. I have been doing limited workouts on the machine, but ramping up the intensity, and I feel stronger.

guerilla is right; you can't consider a low-low carb diet a lifestyle. Your eating needs to be adjusted to be healthy, but something you can live with. Some carbs are actually low calorie, and you can eat them safely. Some examples of low calorie/high fiber carbs:

barley, kasha/groats (familiar if you have a Jewish grandma), brown rice (I personally hate it-ick!), quinoc.

Nice going SEO Mike.

I started just before the first of the year and have lost 15-20 lbs depending on the scale.

I've had days where I come off the treadmill (work out at lunch) and eat some high protein and have more energy the last half the day than I had the first.

i just watch what I eat and keep the portions down and the crap out. Can totally feel it the next day when I eat girl scout cookies for instance. I've dropped a couple pant sizes for sure. Not much weight loss, but it's moving around more as I build my muscles back up and burn off the fat.

All I've done is limit myself to 2k calories a day and workout 3 times a week. 30 minutes treadmill, 10 minutes weights, some crunches and done.

Good on everyone for trying. It's worth it. I forgot how much better it makes you feel.

WTF? "Depending on the scale" - Idiots. If you wanna track, you only track on one scale.
They are all off (unless medical / calibrated), so stick with one and measure progress that way.
