Looks like America WILL have National Health Care after tonight

This. No one answers the real questions however..

Threads like these are just bait for fellow bigots to join the party.

Fuck you! If we don't agree with this health care takeover...we are bigots? Really how do you liberal idiots believe that you are so enlightened and so intelligent?

fuck "take from the rich give to the poor" mentality. the rich people worked for it and earned it, just for someone who didnt earn it to take it from them without doing anything special

This is the mentality that most people in opposition of a public option have. God forbid you ever come down with a serious illness and fall into poverty when your so called "best health-care" in the world system denies you coverage.

funny how most americans don't seem to realize that they are enslaved by their citizenship, no matter where they live.

you'll have to report to the IRS, no matter where you live. While anyone else can simply sign off and doesn't hear from their country ever again until they decide to come back.

For emphasis.

Gov't can't run shit, so a government option will undoubtedly be subsidized by tax dollars. The last time I checked, taxation was not voluntary. No you have NO OPTION but to pay them. Is that "more choices" dumbass?

How do private companies compete against a government company that has endless pockets, i.e., your tax dollars, and can tax and regulate their competitors into bankruptcy?

Obamacare Sucks: Exposing the Lies

It's an absolute fucking joke the way the privatized companies are run so why not accept the CHOICE of having an alternative??

Why are most republicans so against people having CHOICES?

If you really want more choices, then remove state restrictions on health care. That will increase competition, which will increase overall quality for consumers. Insurance companies will be forced to lower prices and increase quality as they compete with each other.

Having to compete with the government is stupid. How can a private company possibly compete with a government program that can run at a loss?

If you think private companies do a bad job, imagine when you have a government program that has no competitive checks and balances. They can be as inefficient as they want because they are run by the gov't, and the gov't can tax people. Your money will be sucked into a shitty government bureaucracy.

Some of you sound like a bunch of old codgers grumbling about change. This bill is long overdue, and had reforms been put in place years ago we would have saved billions by now.

There are many members here living in foreign countries, and for the most part they are happy with the health care they receive that is partially or completely government run. I haven't noticed too much grousing at the cost because it's probably cheaper for them over all.

A lot of the rants are just Republican talking points and don't reflect what's really in the bill. Once this is passed you can get back to your business, and forget all about this. And you will never need to worry that the health insurance you're paying for now will be canceled on you if you get sick. Isn't that worth something?

Thank you.

The large majority of the tax hits are targeted at the insurance companies themselves. Even after tax hikes for the 250k+ percentile you will more than likely end up spending LESS than the insane amount you pay for insurance now. It's absurd that I now have to open up a "CANCER INSURANCE" plan alongside my all ready over-priced "HEALTH INSURANCE" plan...where the fuck is the sense in that..

I know Spanish/Americans who go back and forth and NEVER pay on income earned outside the country. While it may be "true", it is not enforced worth a damn.

And last I checked, customs checks my name to terrorist lists, not an IRS list.

You're complaining about the same issues everyone is but you're thinking is simply backwards.

To get better care you want more regulation, more spending by the government, and seemingly more control.

...But to really get better care you need to deregulate the vast majority of the industry spurring competition, cleaning it up, and driving costs down.

You don't get it.

The most productive people in this country who already pay 50%+ of their income to the Government will be penalized even more with an even greater tax burden.

That's a fact.

This will inevitably stagnate economic growth as this is the exact opposite type of economic policy that has led our country to economic prosperity.

We're being led by a President who is a life long Politician and self describes himself as struggling financially (talking about shopping at Target and being broke was his favorite way to connect with his demographic during the campaign) just a few short years ago. Bottom line: he doesn't get it.

And neither do you.

Another FACT... the majority of Americans are NOT in favor of it. So again, you obviously are out of touch with the principles that this country was founded on. Sure, I'm vehemently opposed to it... but if it was the will of the people I'd have to accept it. But it's not. Yeah, I know the arguement is Obama was elected blah blah blah but no one knew he'd be this far left. I can personally tell you that even a lot of my Democrat friends are disgusted with this guy who will inevitably just be another Jimmy Carter but end up doing a lot more damage to this country during his term.

And forcing a ton of shit into the health bill too?

The whole bill is a joke.

...The thing is worldwide Obama has mass appeal - in Canada his approval rating is over 80%. People get all worked up, even some in the US, saying: "Why don't you want free healthcare?!" when they don't realize that this isn't it.

To be honest I'd rather the original bill to go through if anything. At least it accomplished something - or at least tried. Instead compromises were made that watered down the bill but didn't cut the cost (which was the whole point).

Now you're left with nothing but tax hikes.

The solution isn't this. And like others have said let's not pretend like the Republicans, once elected, will do anything different at all. Same shit, different team.

But yeah, they forced quite a bit of questionable things into the bill. But no one had the time to really analyze the "final draft". Instead they were promised one thing, trusting it was written down in the bill correctly, and blindly voted for the bill. Shameful, really.

Don't wish to hijack or start a debate, just wondering on what metric US health care is best in the world?
^ This.

To find the "best health care system in the world", please scroll all the way down to rank 37:

I for one, am glad the US finally takes this step, although leaving out the public option is a mistake in my opinion. I grew up in Europe under an oh-so-scary national health care system and it worked great for me and my family. My parents, now retired, still live there and receive great care for the various small and big ailments that elderly people tend to get.

When you tax business, the price for the consumer goes up. The cost is passed on.

Anyone who has done retail on or offline knows this. Tax is just another overhead. The business owner/investors don't eat the tax burden. The customers will either directly (higher prices), or through having less choices due to lower competition and diminished investment in innovation (resulting in higher prices).

These sorts of taxes are a net benefit to the big insurance firms. It helps protect them from competition by raising the cost of doing business (capital requirements to start-up).

Really?

Am I going to get free health insurance? Fuck no, because I'm not poor. The only people that are going to get free health insurance are the same ones that are getting it now, while they are on medicaid.

Everyone else is going to be FORCED to buy health insurance whether they want it or not. So, someone like me who carries bare minimum coverage and saves money on my own every month will now be forced to buy a policy that abides by whatever minimum standards the government sets. If I don't, I will get fined around $2,000 from what I understand.

Even worse than that is that I will have to pay more in taxed now to cover a bunch of degenerate dead beats share of "health care reform" . All this bill does is gives the government one more opportunity to tell us what the fuck to do and to penalize us financially for the people in society that refuse to pay their own way.

The passed this even knowing that the majority of people in the country didn't want it. The only way they even got a shit load of Democrats on board was to promise them that they would aggressively push the agenda that they wanted in the months to come.

When the November elections come around, it will be pretty obvious just how many people didn't want this piece of shit bill passed.
