Freedom of speech... we don't censor south park.

Europe... well, it's like the United States... give it a few decades and we'll all be proudly, patriotically and paradoxically shouting USE USE but won't be happy with any decisions being made at federal level.

CCTV... give ya that one. I'm with you, rather see criminals go free than be watched all the time. But I think I just about prefer that to having the CIA using spy satellites to keep tabs on citizens.

Dentists... well for some fucked up reason that's mostly private, complete with insurance companies and all that shit. Compare it to the rest of our heathcare and it's hard to argue against the public system.

Overrun by muslims... not that it matters but there's more living in the US than the UK.

At least we are dealing with some of the real terrorists.
 


Me personally, I'd rather have the government control my health over financially motivated corporations.

For people against national health care, what are your arguments against the fact that your current private health care is outranked by both cost and effectiveness by most European national health services?

Signing sovereignty away to europe? stfu unlike in the usa we can take all that sovereignty back anytime we want, and as much or as little as we want. No matter how pissed off you are at the federal government, you're state assemblies are completely powerless to take back power. We're far more free in that regard. Good one mate.

The dental system thing is just a stupid stereotype which isn't true any more, I don't know anyone younger than 30 that doesn't have near perfect teeth.

Increasingly bowing to sharia law? Muslims make up about 4% of the population in the UK. Why would the government ever be "bowing down to sharia law" when the basically the remaining 96% are on average anti-Muslim. Just because you see a march where people have sharia law banners you immediately assume the country is "bowing down"??

No free medical market? That's wrong we have private healthcare if you're so inclined. It's just we like to make sure everyone gets healthcare, including those in the middle. That has absolutely nothing to do with freedom.

What about schools banning books? What about gays in the army? I would shoot myself if I had to wait till I was 21 to start drinking alcohol. Jesus you only just realised the black guys are people as well, and now you're ranting about how our society isn't free.

Sadly, thanks to Rupert Murdoch et al that's probably not too far from the truth. We are becoming a nation of xenophobic, racist, BNP supporters.

But at least churches don't tell our kids what to think that much and very few people here think the government should decide whether someone can or can't abort a fetus, so even if the BNP get seats we'll still be a long way from right wing America.

I find this statement very curious. Why do you have such a hard on for black vs white. I've been noticing a pattern in your posts. On one hand you get pissed about generalization Europeans but on the other, you're quick to cast them about Americans.

Do you really think in all circumstances being financially motivated (in most cases greedy) results in a better value of service for the customer? It often doesn't and you know this.

Greed is good. Greed forces the provider to provide services that are higher quality. The greedy's fear they will no longer see my money assures this.

I can't say what they're controlling in Euro but here in the states Walmart doesn't control our lives. Hell, they're not even in the health care business beyond providing very low prices on prescriptions. The government could never beat those prices without running deficits.

I guess that makes Walmart 'Greedy' right? As stated before, I'll take greedy over power hungry ANY DAY.

No I'm not really saying all Americans were racist, I'm talking about de jure racism. Laws that explicitly limited black Americans and made sure they had less rights (and fucking freedoms) than the white man.

Look I'm not saying the UK is any more free than the USA, I'm just saying neither countries are completely free, and for good reason.

It's easy to knock America, but really things aren't that different just they are at a different stage to us. The British Empire ended a century ago, America's reign at the top is just finishing. Just as we have had to adapt to no longer being a superpower, so will America. Thinking about it this way, maybe the Victorian analogy wasn't that far off the mark.
