Anyone canceling insurance because of Obamacare?

Except that the worldwide taxation the US has with most of the taxes going towards the military and "national security", on the whole the USA actually has less freedom than the rest of the developed world. This "tradition of freedom" is just an illusion and you bought into it.

Freedom isn't free. God bless America.

If socialized medicine is so great, make it voluntary. I'm an adult, so I'd rather make my own choices.

You're starting to go full retard because you can't accept the reality that the US sucks a dick right now and doesn't have much going for it. It's already clear that US health care is some of the most expensive in the world if you compare it with private health care in other countries. On top of it you have high taxes too with none of the perks since it goes into your bloated military.

I think I already explained how I have a free choice when it comes to universal health care.

I can choose either the public health care with a queue or I can choose affordable private healthcare without a queue.

Taxes are low in HK so it's not like the public option is hurting me.

You as an American on the other hand have no choice because the only option for you is over priced private health care plus high taxes.

Actually since charlesmartel is thinking of dropping his heath insurance, I think he already went full retard since he clearly has no idea how much a hospital visit is going to cost him for something serious like cancer.

It's obvious you know nothing about US history. See the 19th century US. BTW, I'm not disputing that the 20th and 21st centuries have been a failure wrt to freedom. But it's not because of the free market. It's because of gov't. Also, this thread is about Obamacare, not Hong Kong.

Lastly, you saying that you have free choice wrt to healthcare is a joke. You still have to pay for the public system, so if you want to get private care you have to pay twice!

He doesn't like the "universal" part, and think people should be allowed to go uncovered. Forever. Sucks to be reliant on US healthcare without coverage when a minor illness or accident can set you back $100K.

US healthcare costs more than anyplace in the world. It leaves 50,000,000 people left out and gobbles up 18% of the GNP. Obamacare has flaws, but it's an effort to assert control over the mad spending growth and expand coverage to all.

No matter how great Obamacare may be, haters still gonna hate. Haters here have weak objections, and mostly can't stand the idea of being forced to buy coverage. For those in the GOP pulling strings to get rid of it, they have a financial stake in seeing that the wild growth in healthcare spending continues.

Obamacare is probably the best thing that ever happened to US self-employed people. It's the law, it's being implemented and millions of people like it. Those trying to roll it back are on the wrong side of history, so I suggest they suck it in and move on.

What did I say that makes it obvious I know nothing about 19th century US history? FYI in the 19th century the US was involved in the genocide of native americans. America was also a big time war monger during the 19th century. During that time, enlisting in the military wasn't voluntary.

So I think it's you who should brush up on your history so that you don't look like a complete dumbass for a change.

The top tax bracket is in HK is 16% which is SIGNIFICANTLY lower than what Americans and Europeans pay. Also non HK sourced income is taxed at 0% in HK. That basically makes 99% of online income taxed at 0%.

Even if I am paying twice (I'm really not personally), the taxes are far lower than what you're paying even if I was paying 16% taxes on all my income.

That's the thing. Charlesmartel is totally ignorant at how much he's going to get assfucked in hospital fees if he did get sick and was uninsured.

I can tell Charlesmartel is totally clueless by his "I'd rather pay for my own healthcare, just like I pay for my own shelter, food, etc." statement.

You pay for your own healthcare by paying for health insurance. Don't be a retard. You won't be able to afford the massive hospital bill if you aren't insured.

I'm self-employed and my rate is going up 77% with less coverage and that's on top of January's Obamacare increase of 20%+. Success!

BTW, the estimates for Obamacare are already way off. It will cost more than anticipated by at least a factor of 3. And that's just the beginning! Just look at how much the Obamacare website cost. That is just the tip of the iceberg. Deal with it!

Obamacare is shit and not really comparable to universal health care in the rest of the world because Obamacare is NOT universal healthcare. It's just a law that forces you to buy private health insurance. It's a total scam.

People pay bloated health insurance costs and for themselves and the uninsured, even if they don't pay for them directly. Employers have been shifting the exploding premiums onto employees for years, reducing coverage, or dropping coverage outright. You don't get much in raises either when health care costs won't stop growing exponentially.

Look, I'm gonna talk to you as one capitalist to another. The GOP has voted to overturn Obamacare 40 times and they failed. They took it to the Supreme Court, hoping to overrule the law and they failed. They tried to defund Obamacare by shutting down the government and they failed.

The Obamacare ship has sailed, and I think you should make the best of it and move on. At least you know your insurance will never be canceled if you get sick, and there's lots and lots of choice. Did you have much choice before? I think not.

It's pointless to keep grousing over this; it's like complaining ad nauseum that Google updated their ranking methods. A shrewd business person adjusts to change and moves on.

You are right, it could be a lot better. A big factor was the insurance industry. They would never have allowed the law to pass without getting a big piece of the action. Hillarycare in the 1990s was discredited to the public using TV ads paid for by the insurance industry, and then dropped like a hot potato. There was always the risk they would do this again to manipulate the public. No exchanges or reform without the industry onboard.

100% agree. It's politics as usual.

The problem with health insurance in the US, is not that so many people lack coverage. The problem is the costs, they are exceedingly high and climb every year.

ObamaCare does absolutely NOTHING in regards to the costs, and is in fact an insurers wet dream. It's the govt in bed with the insurance industry while the people suffer, what's new . . .

What we need is a free market with open pricing.

Obamacare has inducements to control and reduce prices by paying doctors and hospitals for better patient results. The old fee for service system encouraged sloppy care and poor results. Made the patient sicker? You get paid more! Well, that's coming to an end.

And there are other triggers in the law that control prices. Too much info, too little time. Here's an url that gives details.

(And no, the hospitals are not pleased.)

It's a bit more complicated than that. In fact, the US government already spends more tax money on health care than most other nations.
