Are you a marketer or a straight up liar?

And with the news of the FTC crack down the FTC seems to of made it clear whats morally not right and im pretty positive that most of us are in violation of one or more of the rules they made clear over the past week.

Government is in no position to tell anyone what is moral or not.

As long as we keep them in power and continue to do so. Then yea, they are.
Correction: It is the courts, not the government which has the final say. Technically the government regulations can be challenged in court.

Just because Nominet said that myspace.co.uk was to be transferred to myspace.com -- courts decide it. And just because DHS seized some domains doesn't mean the companies are not in a position to challenge that government body.

Right, But thats getting off topic a bit. Lets see a marketer try and fight his way out of some of the shady way he promotes stuff. I don't think theres anyway you can spin it. You would still lose in court unless you got lucky and they tripped up or you got out from some kind of loop hole.

But then again we all know that doing this shady marketing will get you in legal trouble right? riight? So why are people still questioning whether it's morally wrong or not? I am guessing people know its morally wrong to be a shady marketer. That its a risk they take to make lots of money.

I guess the real question is if you do this kind of marketing. Do you think you have a right to prey on stupid people? or trick people?

I'm not out fuck anyone over, plain and simple. If I wouldn't want it done to me or my family then I have no business doing it to anyone else. Karma is real. The world has enough slimeballs cheaters and scammers. It's similar to the tip thread, sure you could save a few dollars by screwing someone, but in the end your really screwing yourself. Scamming is a short sighted business model.

You don't need to lie, cheat or mislead in order to sell. Sure it may be easier, the low hanging fruit, but it's not necessary. You can illicit emotion and use colorful descriptions and language while leading the viewer towards action using only the truth.

Have a good product and aim for the long term, not some short lived chump change from a quick scam.

Well said! I like to build up a relationship with the people I plan on eventually selling to before I sell to them. They trust you more that way.

That and I'm actually interested in helping people. My niche is foreign languages and helping people to learn them. Why? Because I know it's possible for anyone to do it and I really want to help them accomplish that. If I can express that desire, then I don't think I should have to lie through my teeth to make a quick buck.

Something tells me that you are not the guy who gets to sleep with 8-10 new girls every month but have been fucking the same one for years...

I like to take the position of the humble marketer. Why? I think a lot of people are smart enough to tell when you're pulling their leg. If you have something good, you shouldn't have to exaggerate the benefits

Wrong. A product's success is almost always a direct result of how good its marketing is. I've created a couple of products that are actually very high quality, useful products. I also scam people into paying $20 for some bullshit ringtones that they could easily create themselves for free if I didn't trick them into buying mine. Guess what? The shit I have that's actually useful makes just enough to pay rent, bills, clothes and my other daily expenses whereas ringtones make enough to buy a garage full of Maseratis and the $1000 Barker Black loafers that I wear when I drive them. The quality of a product is by no means an indication of how well it will sell.

Missed your question. The answer to that question is - YES!

A stupid person and her money are going to stay with each other for long time. She is going to lose it on something anyway. So why not through where I profit? It is not like any of us is holding them on a gunpoint and asking them to give us their money...

simple answer...

you run flogs and farticles... you make fake comments... you make fake reviews...

fake = liar....

so if you are using that or any type of deception yes you are lying

and if you dont think that you are... you are just lying to yourself

That's how I feel about it. The type of person who is prone to buy acai pills or subscribe to ringtone sites or apply for government grants endorsed by a guy driving an Impala on 28's is almost surely just gonna waste that money on something else ("something else" meaning similar shit-quality products) if they didn't waste it on our products.

I do think there is a difference between what we do and straight up scamming. "Lying" is just a part of marketing ... how else would every single mobile carrier in the US be making ads saying they each have "the fastest 4G service in the US"? Unless all of them are exactly the same speed (which they're not), the majority of them are lying (in reality they're probably not lying because they have some tiny addendum at the bottom that no one reads, which is exactly the same as what we do).

Dude don't punch these guys so hard in the liar's guilt muscle it just makes their pussies sore.

lol at this t-mobile ad I just saw that made me think of this thread. The entire premise of the ad was their new "truly unlimited data plan" with "no caps or additional fees." Sounded great until the 2 seconds of fine print at the end that said "unlimited data only includes 2gb of high speed data". In other words, after the usual 2gb, you get the slow shitty internet that doesn't even work, and you even paid them extra for it.

Very good question. I've struggled with it as well. I guess I would put it this way:

There are:

1) people who don't feel that the deception they're doing is "wrong."
2) people who feel it's wrong but don't care
3) people who feel it's wrong, care somewhat but they care about money more
4) people who feel it's wrong and therefore don't participate in deceptive marketing

I think it's a personal choice for everyone. People in 1-3 caategories sometimes get reminders that "the majority" of the society does not approve of their activities - read FTC, etc.

By the way, what always amazed me the most is guys pushing worthless penis pills, preying on other guy's "size insecurities" and cropping fake penis pictures and writing "my enlargement stories" all day. Why why why? All for mighty dollar? And you know what, I know for a fact there's quite a few of these guys on WF :) Hey guys, wanna speak up and tell us how it FEELS? I always wanted to know!
