Are you a marketer or a straight up liar?

Its all about selling the dream. People want something for nothing and its a marketers job to give them nothing for something.

Those who say all marketing = lying are wrong.

Really good marketing is understanding who your perfect customers are, finding out what they want, and offering it to them in such a way as they buy it. No deception involved.

If all you're doing is pandering to people's weaknesses and selling them quick fixes that don't work, that's fraud (by the dictionary definition of "deceit, trickery, sharp practice, or breach of confidence, perpetrated for profit or to gain some unfair or dishonest advantage")

Now, if you make your money scamming idiots, maybe they deserve to be scammed in your eyes. They'd probably just spend it booze or junk food anyway right? However you want to square it with yourself is up to you, but don't be so self-deceiving as to claim it's ok because everyone in marketing does it.

I don't do CPA rebill marketing because I haven't found a way to be ok with the stuff I'd be selling. Seriously, I'd spend all day worrying about how I was going to explain to my family about how I made the money. I'm building a "legit" business instead that makes me feel good because my customers are all very happy with the stuff I sell em. It's nowhere near as profitable as it would be if I was scamming, but that's my choice.

Damn I'd been waiting for a relevant time to post this one for awhile.

LOL!!

If you've actually read this book, you'd know the title doesn't really summarize his ideas in the book.

Now now, no need to jump to conclusions.

I own the book. You're right, the title is "misleading". The point is to tell stories that fit with the worldview of your audience - not to outright lie to them (e.g. every wine has a specific glass that brings out its best taste... which was proven to be total BS in blind taste testing... however, if the consumer actually believes it then it makes it "true").

It was a comical response to barman's quote, that is all.

it's true, most affiliate "marketers" are just cheaters who will be working at mc donalds in a few years (along with their affiliate manager) after their one successful campaign fails. affiliate marketing in its current form along with 2nd tier networks (ie. 99% of those discussed here) will be a thing of the past in the not so distant future.

I grind pretty hard to add and create value. It isn't as flashy as what other people do, but at the end of the day, I have something to build on for tomorrow.

i only sell stuff that makes people go "cool" when I tell them what I sell.

Thats a sign that you're selling something that people actually want and something that actually works. People who justify rebills as "eat or be eaten" are assholes that are just trying to rationalize being assholes.

why do you thjink peple buy things its because they want them and how do you think they find out about them in the first place its because of me. someone could create a cancer cure but how would anyone else know about it outside the dudes laboratory without marketing

You can throw game theory into this discussion. "If the next guy cheats, why shouldn't I?" is a common mentality.

Given case, was doing well on a specific offer for over a year, suddenly someone else comes in promoting it, making claims that were straight up lies. Is it worth adjusting my claims? Game theory says I should, but, it isn't ethical. Sucks being involved in an industry with such low barriers to entry and so many sleazy people that only think of the short term.

Be yourself and never mind the bollocks...

I believe the phrase "I'm independent of the good opinion of others" applies here. It doesn't matter how deceptive other marketers are out there, all that matters is what are you doing and do you feel good about yourself doing it.
Yes there are a multitude of scrupulous individuals out there just out for one thing, and that is to manipulate people into buying something. As someone rightly stated here, this kind of attitude won't last long term.
Strength and real wealth come to those who stay true to themselves, and write about their passions and their real experiences. Whether this experience is with an affiliate product or something else matters not. Honesty and integrity will always attract the right kind of people in the end. And guess what, not only will you make money with this mind set, you will be doing it from your heart and your customers will appreciate you for it.

Does repeat business mean anything to an affiliate marketer?

Building the relationship is more important than a quick buck.

Sometimes though, honesty and holier than thou morals doesn't pay the bills, so you do still need a structure to your work. At the end of the day you need to move products and services, but you can do it a way that isn't pushy and that won't push people away. You're in business for the long haul right? Part of your business plan should definately include your businesses values. What does it stand for?

Personally I much prefer to buy something from someone who clearly walks their talk. And you can smell the faksters a mile away can't you?!!

Attraction Marketing it is sometimes called. Let the people come to you by being someone they want to associate with.

Nuff said!

If it makes you feel any better big companies like Google screw with people too.

^this

I am a full blown deceptionist when it comes to my ads, you gotta do what you gotta do, although sometimes TE shit I do makes me question it's legality :lD. I am very new to AM, only 3mo. in, but using this "method" I have made about $700 in the last 6 days, & there is no way in hell that I'm looking back

Bottom line, this world is a fucked up place, it's not gonna change anytime soon. You either flow with the current or don't, plain and simple.

it's bad business to be deceptive and fling deceptive offers at people. You get no repeat business aand its way harder to compete DURRRR
