Designing my office....your views?

The tv cost me 4.5k + Ill probably hook up a mac mini too it.
Imac costs 2k.

(Makes me like the tv more)

Its like having a 55" iMac! Maybe, just maybe Ill scrap the plan for another mac mini and simply hook up the iMac and TV with a thunderbolt connector.
Coz Im not sure I want multiple keyboards.

So yea, I intend to use my space age TV over my 1920 iMac.. (mine seems outdated now that the 2013 versions out)
:music06:

A 55 inch 7000 or 8000 series Samsung costs about half of what you're claiming to have paid. You got ripped off. The price is irrelevant though. The picture on the TV is never going to be as good as that on a professional computer monitor.

Everything costs twice as much here thanks to our govt trying to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.
I dont care about the picture because my job mainly involves looking at emails and answering my phone ;-)

I loved my tv. I'm now half blind and have to constantly have to increase the font on everything just to read it even with glasses (I probably need to get the prescription changed). Working on the TV was a lot nicer.

Corner office? What's the view like?
Nothing too nice. Plus the glass is really dirty right now, we're going to speak to the person in charge about cleaning them from the outside.
change the chairs for starters..
Not an option. Originally, we'd planned the interiors keeping in mind a black "Herman miller" embody chair. However, eventually when I did not get one (because it costs me twice as much as it costs you..(govt's heavy import taxes)).
Later, I just happened to come across these and just had to have them.
I know they look absolutely out of place, but I figured, well, the couch will match the chairs and the chairs will match the couch.
Eventually I also got a table pad made for free from the wastage :P.

Point being, the chairs, I know look out of place, but they're awesome nonetheless. And they're shit expensive as well, hence replacing them is not an option.

Just noticed - surely there's no room to move your mouse without heavy wrist strain, unless you have the sensitivity on a ridiculous level?
Yep. Sensitivity is always really low. Besides, I rarely have to use the keyboard and mouse together a lot. I'm generally using either one. It's not really inconvenient as such.
Too much bling bling in such a small cubicle, feels strange :)
A bigger place isn't an option. If I want to have a 300 sq. ft. cabin to myself, it would cost about $$250-280k. (prevalent property rates on the current market).
Maybe if I was making 2-3 times what I'm making right now, I'd get a big cabin.
The chairs should be replaced and the amethyst doesn't match well with the Staples desk beneath it.

The desk isn't a "staples". It's custom made as well.
The office is WHITE WHITE WHITE. The way we picturized it (interior designer and myself), the amethyst was going to be the only element of colour standing out in a fully white/black/steel cabin.

The pictures are so large that my laptop is lagging while I scroll down. lol

But that is one cozy office and a comfortable one AND that wood floor is cool!

Anyone else who would honestly just prefer a large clean wooden desk from ikea, a good chair, 2 good monitors, and enough room to get up, stretch, and walk around?

Lol, this is exactly me, minus the second screen. Don't really see the point, one is already too many...

Curious about the amethyst tabletop though - does it have any religious or cultural significance? Or just cos it looks nice?

I can't think of any web work that can't be more productive on two screens.

Writing? Have references on one screen, document open on the other.
Programming? Again, references one screen, code on the other.
Designing? Have the website open on one screen, code/images on the other so you can instantly see changes implemented, etc...

If you move to two monitors you won't be able to move back. Lots of people just don't get it until they try it.

those pictures are big as fuck. i don't know how you are going to look to the right all day working

I had to push "-" many times untill those pictures fit my screen (and the text became microscopic) :D He must have viewed them on TV size screen before posting :)

haha...no, not really.
It just looks swanky and different.
You don't see a tabletop like that anywhere.

Amethyst is generally used in jewelry and has all sorts of powers for bringing good luck apparently. It was my designer's idea to use it as a table top.

I don't believe in the feng shui stuff, but a little good luck wouldn't hurt :P

Funny story actually, my girlfriend went to a feng shui shop to buy me an "office warming" gift. After some time the shopkeeper tried making a big deal about this little rock he had that would apparently bring a lot of good luck and fortune. It was a piece of amethyst!
My girlfriend cracked up when she heard it.
She eventually ended up buying something called a 'pagoda tree". (ripped off)

Two Screens Are Better Than One - Microsoft Research
Security cameras, emails, helpdesks, chat windows, skype etc.
mutliple screeens offer you the option to "almost-multi-task". You can quickly switch between task to task without having to push around windows etc.

I also need a windows OS to run some of my stuff and hence multiple machines (not just multiple screens) become a necessity.

I clicked them from my phone. Shouldn't have posted them in full size. :P

I guess I'm the exception. I have too much trouble focusing with more than one thing on my screen, let alone having another. Fast alt+tab action and a small laptop screen is the most productive set up I have tried.
