They've done this for years in the UK and it hasn't made much of a difference. Same with the raised prices. The addicts gotta have their fix.

the US/UK ones are weak. Thai cigarettes have the goriest shit I've ever seen on them. Close-up pics of tumors, diseased babies, black lungs, etc... all the norm. Obviously it doesn't stop people that are already addicted but it probably has an effect on kids that would otherwise start.

Freedom and choice. (if you can get past the self responsibility bit).
Problem over. Government money spent ZERO.
If they must tell us what to do then have every smoker pay into his insurance policy each time he buys a pack instead of taxing them, saying the money is to cover health care then pissing up a wall.

Loss of productivity from a smoko every 20 minutes for 10 minutes and having to stop work at 60 and get a pension because your fucked from smoking aswell as burden on health care system all adds up.

Israel tested different messages out a few years ago, and they found one cut smoking more than all the others combined. It was....
"Smoking causes impotence."

Anyone ever read Buyology? They look at the brain waves to determine what makes us buy, pretty interesting stuff. Anyways, when smokers in countries that had these nasty pics on the packs, were shown these nasty pics, their cravings were off the charts. So basically these disgusting pics make smokers want to smoke.
