Repeat after me...Okay, I’m calling it: if you’re using guest blogging as a way to gain links in 2014, you should probably stop. Why? Because over time it’s become a more and more spammy practice, and if you’re doing a lot of guest blogging then you’re hanging out with really bad company.

Why would I care whether you think I give any credence to what he says? He said something, he's a man who has a position of power within Google that affects many people on this board.

Google wants everyone to depend on them.
So they have modified the concept of guest blogging, which has a specific meaning, and are now trying to categorize that plus every form of webmaster interaction as spam.
