HIRE ME!!

Couldn't agree more. That was a totally legit post. Good luck to you OP, if I had the room I would give you a shot.

He's overqualified to be a VA, JMO. His skill set is a weird fit. Maybe a junior account manager for IM but he's still missing certain pieces so he'd need a good amount of training. Training is an investment and a calculated risk, how long before he's ready to go out on his own?

I don't think you can have an overqualified employee. Overqualified is essentially code for "I think this person is worth more than I'm willing to pay".

You want to hire based on efficiency and work output in mind, not just cost. I've never hired a VA outside of North America, so I'm only speaking off of hearsay, but it seems the dirt cheap wages from international workers come at the cost of painfully in-depth training and a language barrier which prevents clear communication.

Basic tasks most people outsource are typically very simple. Keyword research is data entry, manual blog commenting and guest posts are simple outreach assignments, article writing is essay writing everybody has done in school. Anybody can become an effective social media manager after watching a few Gary Vaynerchuk videos on YouTube.

These are all things North Americans (students especially) are willing to do at very reasonable rates. I don't know what your personal needs for a VA are, but for the majority of outsourced tasks, the training required is extremely minimal. Send them a link them to a few must-reads and let them learn by experience making small corrections as you go.

There are more than enough people who are willing to grind for an online income source to replace the ones who have evolved past your employment. Even still, most will appreciate a steady income while they try to make that push.

If they are successful then you have changed somebody's life, and you need to hire a new body, but this doesn't happen overnight.

OP if you had any amount of capital I'd suggest you break out on your own. Which is what I think is your end goal, realistically. Which means if I hired you and trained you it would only be a matter of time. Yes it sucks but it's just the truth. In this industry of self made men/women and lone wolves nobody wants to train their next competitor.

This is why it sucks to fail in this industry.

At one point you had money. So you ran some campaigns, learned a lot, had some successes, but in the end couldn't make it work and now you're broke.

You then realize you need to settle for a job to pay the damn bills. So you apply for jobs that fit your skillset, jobs you're very capable of doing.

However, when hiring managers find out that you ran your own business for the last 2 years instead of working for an agency, their immediate fear is that you're just trying to get paid for the time being until you have enough money to go back to running your own business (all true of course). And time afer time you get passed over for the cubicle slave who wants to spend his entire life dedicated to the company for the sake of security.

What's a broke affiliate to do?

It depends on where you are outsourcing. I always get Jamaicans. Perfect English, in my timezone and there are a lot of tech career students that are pretty talented. It's not as cheap as India/Phillipines but the fact that there is no language barrier and I'm not waking up at 2am to talk to my contractors is worth it on it's own let alone the fact that they are a tech saavy nation. And it's certainly cheaper than workers in the US.

My point is though that I think he could do better than a VA job. Maybe get that kind of job while he gets the rest of the skills he needs to go on. He needs a mentor/apprenticeship situation more than he needs to be a VA. Aim higher OP. Of course, JMO. :)

Sell them. If you're going down that job path, then you use all your marketing techniques to get the job. You understand that's a concern, so convince them why it's not the case.

WF must have changed in my absence. How OP has not be flamed to hell and back is absolutely astounding to me.

Hell, judging from the replies, he'll probably get hired by someone in under 10 hours of this being posted.

People being helpful and stuff? What the hell is going on here? I like this, but it makes me feel wierd.

It shouldn't be. Standards were lowered to accommodate the lowest common denominator a long time ago.

Giving them what?!??! You might want to hire the OP to at least finish your thought for you.
Nomad pls

If nothing else, you gotta give the OP credit for his hustle and determination. Skills can be taught to almost anyone, character is a rare ingredient.

Honestly, I always look for folks that want to do their 'own' thing. And being able to help them in their journey is an honor and a lot of fun to see them grow. My goal is to have folks that think for themselves vs. being mindless drones. They should always look at me making money, as if THEY are making money.

If you train your folks right and have CONFIDENCE and most importantly TRUST in them, they are PERFECT for the project you don't really have time for BUT would like to do. So you can partner up with them - which most importantly is a WIN/WIN for everyone. Provide a bit of guidance and a little capitalm that you can afford to loose (remember you are already trusting them) and it becomes an educated risk.

You now not only have a mindless drone but someone that has the best interest of YOUR business in mind for your 'side' venture. Create a good relationship based on trust with them and you now have a powerful ally for the rest of your life. You'd be surprised how loyal some people will be!

My favorite deals - Win - Win.

Oh... and if you are wondering where you can find such folks? Place a ad on Craigslist! You'd be surprised how many folks are willing to Intern for free in exchange for knowledge and training. People that are hungry, in the U.S. and willing to work their butt off. Just make sure you TRULY offer something of value and are GENUINE in your offering...

It's the kinder, gentler WickedFire. Guerilla started it.
