I get an extra day off when I get back from an audit and with memorial day coming up I'll have the 21st-25th off. I'm thinking about taking the girlfriend for a nice long weekend trip. Got any recommendations for a 3-4 day trip in the Northeast? I live in NJ so I wouldn't mind driving 4-5 hours to get wherever were going. Ideas? It would be preferable if there was a Starwoods hotel there since I have a bunch of points that I can use.

a few ideas if you haven't been -
block island.
shelter island
cape cod.
Maine is pretty cool too if you like the outdoors.

I'm a fan of all of New England.

I go to school in Western Mass. "The Berkshires" if you will, but please don't. It is pretty cool here right now with everything just budding/flowering, but I can't wait for finals to be done so I can head to Truro down the Cape.

Cape Cod is more of a summer thing than a spring thing though.

I usually only go to New Hampshire/Vermont during the winter to ski.

Spring is kind of a weird time everything around here seems split into winter or summer. Everytime I go to Boston all I end up doing is walking around Faneuil Hall and the North End which gets old, but that's because I've done it a ton.

Martha's Vineyard is a group of identical towns and some are dry so I wouldn't suggest there.

This isn't even helpful is it. :costumed-smiley-015

I am in Washington, DC right now.. the weather is bareable and the greenery is AMAZING - right now is a great time to be visiting New England.. good luck!

cape cod will be way better late june/july/aug than now. too cold.

boston's good. lotsa shit to do there.

DC can be very nice in late may (well, unless there is a heatwave - then it's miserable ) . Lots of Starwood hotels too .

I live in central CT and my girlfriend and I take frequent weekend getaways to the following Starwood destinations..

- Westin Providence: awesome hotel, connected to a 3 story mall. Great restaurants, bars, etc. If you get bored in downtown Providence, then Newport, RI is a 25 min car ride away.

- Westin Copley Place: also awesome hotel, in the middle of the back bay in Boston.

Rehobeth Beach in Delaware. Not crowded yet and 'romantic'.

Ignore the fact that it's the east coasts highest concentration of gay/lesbians, consider it a good chance to meet a third of the folks on wickedfire.

(serious) - Good beaches for the area, boardwalk (cool if you've never been), driving distance to good parks (nature), good food. Night life will be a little weak right now - but there will still be some.

Thanks for all the good suggestions. Now that I get thinking about it, the beach/waterfront scene might be a little early in the year right now. Ill definitely keep those places in mind for when it gets warmer out. Im thinking DC would be a good option. Any recommendation on which Starwoods hotel to stay in in DC?

Now... not hot enough for Boston. (i want to move... Boston for 25 years on me is taking its toll)

I would go to DC, but the last time I went I stayed with my girls sister at GW, so I don't have the slightest on Hotels.

Never stayed in any hotels in DC as I live 20 mins away, but as far as the location is concerned I would recommend these ones:

St- Regis - right in the heart of the city, minutes from the White House

Westin Grand - Close to Georgetown, close to city center

Westin Washington, D.C. City Center - a little less central then the other ones, but still a good location. Downtown DC is small, so everything is relatively close.

The Fairfax at Embassy Row - a bit stuffy, but very luxurious. Location close to the Dupont Circle area.

Why so classy, how about Atlantic City, the poor man's Vegas? Cheap and abundant hotel rooms, top value buffets, boardwalk with cheap taffy, quality seashore, shows, gambling, drinking, shopping. You can actually get there for free (or nearly free) from most locations in the tri-state area, as shuttle buses are sponsored by the casinos to schlep you in to gamble.

Go to Mystic , CT , Foxwoods is about 15-20 mins away . I took my wife a few years ago ( becuase she loves the water ) It was a good time .
