Would you believe it if I told you I actually had extensive experience with vehicle crashes. I have been on scene of dozen's of vehicle vs tree/pole/other fixed (hardly enough to be an expert) object; and in that time frame never once have I witnessed a car burn to the ground like that one. Of the vehicle fires that I have seen they mostly were from either parked vehicles, or vehicles that began to smoke and then catch fire. Typically caused by some kind of electrical problem. I know people who have hit trees at 80+ mph drunk off their ass who lived to tell about it.
I have absolutely no idea what caused that fire. But when you look at it, it just doesn't make sense. But like I said maybe you are right. Maybe this was that one in a 1,000,000 freak accident.
BTW you skipped over my question about how long it's been "well known" that he was into drugs and alcohol? It's comment's like that which causes this kind of speculation. With that kind of fire how would they know that fast if he was on something? Why even bring it up? It looks like the coroner has identified the body and confirmed it was Hastings.
I haven't found when this accident took place. Everyone is reporting "early tuesday morning". So perhaps that means 2am where that speculation may make more sense, but it was still premature.
The toxicology results are still not back (maybe they are) according to that latest link (3 hours old). But the times are already reporting that there was "no foul play" while in the same article say
So if they are still trying to determine whether there was a mechanical problem with the car, how can they rule out foul play? Is that how it works?
In a lot of words you basically just said they're doing a normal, thorough investigation in what appears to be a pretty typical reckless driving death.
