longest you've gone without sleep?

One of the only times I've stayed up a long time voluntarily was when I did 38 hours playing EverQuest back in 1999. My then-girlfriend and I both played and we had some friends playing with us. I don't remember if they took breaks or not.

I've probably done at least that much time due to infrequent bouts with insomnia but I don't really count it because I was lying down, in bed, with my eyes closed *trying* to sleep, for a good portion of the night. I can't really say definitively I didn't drop off for 30-60 minutes in there without knowing it. I feel worse after that kind of night than I would have just staying up. Thank goodness it's rare, because I'm wrecked and useless for half the day afterwards.

I did just about 75 hours fed by stress and caffeine. The last 4ish hours of being awake gave me hallucinations more creepy and vivid than any I've experienced on any type of drug.

You weren't hallucinating. Your mind was simply starting to wake up from the spell/hypnosis of prolonged sleep sedation and you were beginning to realize the true chaos of the world around us.

Looks like the average seems to be around 30-40 hours (unless 'medicated'). I guess I would fall into that category as well.

For me, it was fuckin 3 days without sleep during my cousin's wedding. I never wish that again. But damn, I have this guy working at my office. He is insane! He can go for 7 days straight without sleep.

I love the no sleep buzz...it's like a natural high, everything seems magical and inspiring.. beats drugs yo. I find it's a bit like fasting, once you have gone for a couple of days the need for sleep disappears and you sort of just get lost in what you are doing for hours but then I am always not sleeping for days on end for the buzz cant even remember what it was like in the beginning. Worst experience I have had from not sleeping about 60 hours was running to the store(you get delusionally hypo) and I crossed the road and miss timed it and hit my arm on the clipping for the tail of an old truck and it spun me around leaving a big scar and i couldn't even care, was more embarrassed that I had just ran into a fucken truck than anything.

It's like any drug, the more you do the more you need for the buzz(less sleep) and the better you can handle it.

First post and I think I have painted it rather crazy picture of myself...eh next ill be cutting off my ear :costumed-smiley-087

Your a fucking reject.

I've gone 4 days without sleep and its horribly pointless. I do know a girl who once went 2 weeks without sleep on PCP in the past, she was speaking pure nonsense by the end of it.. I'm really surprised she isn't permanently damaged from 14 days of sleep, never mind the dust.

Somewhere around 38ish hours.

I drove straight from Florida to Iowa and tried to sleep at a truck stop for a bit but couldn't so I continued on into Minnesota. That took about 25 hours. I had a wedding to go to that day and tried to sleep in between but decided it wouldn't be a great idea because I probably wouldn't wake up. So I went to the wedding and got wasted at the reception all night. That was fun. It only took a few glasses of beers before I was buzzing pretty good. That night I finally passed out. Driving that long is pretty messed up. You can go through a whole state on autopilot and not realized what the hell just happened.

Around 50 hours. Thanks to an Xbox game called Elder Scrolls III "Morrowind". Sold my Xbox shortly after.

My friend saved my game right as I was dying from the sun as a vampire and everytime I would load the game I would just fall to the ground.

I was destroyed... for days. But I got some of the best sleep of my life

Having seen firsthand the damages that lack of sleep can do to the human body and/or thought processes, I make it a point to at least get some sleep each and every night. Now sometimes I have a situation where I go to sleep at 3am and wake up at 6am, and sometimes I get the full eight hours plus a few.

The trick is to take melatonin at night. 3mg at most. It regulates the sleep cycle so that you get full 1 1/2 hour cycles, and you can set an alarm for 6 hours after you fall asleep and wake up feeling refreshed.

If you wake up in the middle of a sleep cycle and have to drag yourself out of bed, that's when you start to fall asleep in the shower. Stage 4 sleep to awake is no way to start a day.

The machinist was a great movie but I think the word record is something like 11 days and they don't even let people submit for that record anymore cuz it's too dangerous. My record was 5 days but I had help from narcotics.

oh it was 18 hours driving non stop.... on fcuking indian roads...at the end of it ...i think i was having troubles remembering my name too :D
