Someone commented that as one of the affiliate marketing guides i wasnt contributing enough, so here i am, again :)

Post your questions about affiliate marketing, lets see if i can help you out. I know how to sell and market, programming or technical stuff i have no clue about.

I think i have helped a few guys on this board, hopefully i can help some of the new members out as well.

I've had issues with expiring offers or advertisers that suddenly pull there offer and I'm left with a redirect to another offer. Obviously that costs money.

I'm tempted to stick to only big names when running offers as I think they will hang around longer.

Also the expiration dates on the offers across all networks seem to be very misleading.

Thanks for your help.

When you start doing research for a new product to push, what is the FIRST thing you do?

A lot of times the frustration is with the advertiser pulling the offer down due to a few reasons:

They got more volume than they expected.
The quality of the traffic isn't working for them
Or the advertiser is making a change on the campaign and takes it down.

Ultimately i would say if you see the same advertiser pulling the same short notice crap over and over, i would promote someone else. But if a campaign comes down you cant get mad, its just like when you take down a PPC campaign that isn't backing out, you don't see Google getting mad right? Its all part of the game

Networks will redirect to monetize the traffic instead of letting it go nowhere.

Honestly i dont spend much time researching. People spend to much time researching and not acting. Find a product you like, build a good landing page, put it in Google or Yahoo, drive traffic and tweak.

Dont waste time ... Just do it.

Whats your take on bidding on a sites name when doing PPC...

As an example, say you have a membership based site called "Cool Site"

Im running a campaign that currently gets the majority of its clicks from the keyword "Cool Site" however, it doesnt seem to be converting. One theory ive heard is that it is current members looking for the site again...

Is it worth bidding on the site name, or just keywords related to the site/niche?

I read alot of posts about guys running Adwords campaigns to direct to affiliate offers... alot of them say that they use their domain in the display URL and in their Destination URL and then redirect to the affiliate...

1) Isn't this against TOS if you are redirecting them away from the designation domain in your adwords ad as their final resting place?

2) In your opinion... what do you prefer as far as Adwords/Affiliate Marketing... You own landing page, a feeder page, or a direct link? and if you use direct link, what is your preference of doing so?

Hows that for a question? :)

I think its a bunch of bored people asking google what a cool site is. make a cool site and bid on the term, youll get more clicks but monetizing it might be tough.

Maybe you can create a site that delivers the cool site of the day but first the person has to go through some offers before they get to it.

Sorry, I may not have been clear...

Say there is a free membership site with an affiliate program called "XYZ"

Im trying to promote the affiliate program to get people to sign up through my site, "XYZ Free" via PPC, ive been bidding on the sitename "XYZ" - ive been getting ciicks to my landing page but not many conversions. Ive been told they may be because current members are looking for the site again - Now should I continue to bid on the sitename or should I instead, focus on bidding on the keywords in the niche?

As far as adwords go i believe you can use your redirect as the display and the destination. Those that are redirecting right to the offer changed it once google looked it over. Google does not allow a redirect like that but people do get away with it.

I would build your own landing page as it will help with quality score and will also give you the ability to sell your user on the offer. linking direct to the offer hasnt worked for me. Build a real site and process to feed the offer not just a basic landing page.

Are you sending the people right to the site or do you have a landing page that then goes to the offer?

Mike, what is your opinion on (Free) Gift Card submits?

Can they be profitable for affiliates, if most traffic is from PPC Engines?

They are profitable for many affiliates. You need to come up with a unique spin to make it work. Some people bid on celebrities or current events and try to tie the term in to the email submit. For example on current events, you can say do you support the war in Iraq, vote now and enter to win a free laptop.

Mike, I have my own site that im sending traffic to

My landing page looks like the site im promoting, also my domain is almost the same...

People are looking for what that site has to offer, make your site offer the same stuff, or your initial thought might be right that they are looking for the other site. If you want to PM me the details and your site maybe i can help you come up with a better way to monetize the traffic. Without seeing the site its hard for me to answer you.

Where do you find your mind blowingly sexy creative models?

Thanks for the thread Mike. I'm sure you will be here all day.

3 Questions please:

#1. I'm thinking about setting up my own affiliate offer but am not sure yet. What is needed to be done on my side to implement this say through COPEAC?

#2 What's your experience with high commission based offers in affiliate marketing? ex: When I say high I mean instead of getting $20 for a mortgage lead, the affiliate gets paid on the back at closing x amount of dollars. Or on a home sale through a Realtor. Is this possible to offer and track?

#3. Where do you see affiliate marketing going in the near to distant future?

If you want to run your own offer in our network i can get you in touch with someone in ad sales to help get the offer in our network.

With regards to being paid on the back end of a lead generation deal you would really need to work with the actual end user of those leads direct as most networks wouldn't and couldnt manage this. A word of caution if you're going this route. First you need to trust the person you're giving the leads to. They can easily say a lead didn't close and screw you out of a few dollars. Also the money you make is only as good as their sales people. if their sales people suck your ROI will suck.

I think affiliate marketing will always be around. You will definitely see a consolidation in the industry, i really don't think there is room for 150 networks. I think you will see some company's being bought up and others going out of business. i can tell you that in the past few months i have received more letters about companies going out of business and not paying their bills than i have seen in the 9 years i have been in internet marketing.

Hope that helps
